As a Data Acquisition Engineer your expertise will provide valuable insight in the development, test, and certification of propulsion systems for the Space Launch System, as well as other new and existing programs at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). In this role, you will also provide insight for NASA’s Space Launch System Core Stage Engine Program. You will become part of a multi-discipline team with the charter to establish flight rationale for America’s next generation of manned launch vehicles.

Primary job duties include engaging with propulsion system development teams to provide support as related to the Multi-Channel Integrated Dynamic Data Acquisition System (MIDDAS) and the Real-Time Vibration Monitoring System (RTVMS) in support of engine and component level testing. In addition, you will provide maintenance for the hardware and software for MIDDAS and RTVMS, provide software enhancements and implement hardware upgrades on an as needed basis, and provide operational support of these two systems - including system installation and setup, operation during test, and validation and delivery of test data.

BS degree from an ABET accredited institution in Electrical or Computer Engineering or other related field with an emphasis in computer hardware engineering and a minimum of 15 years of experience is required.

Experience in:

  • the development and application of high speed data acquisition hardware (such as National Instruments) is required.

  • software development and integration is also required; knowledge of MatLab, Java, and Python is desired.

  • providing test support for propulsion systems testing is required.

  • signal analysis and processing is desired.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).


Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
