Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) is comprised of 10 companies and is located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL (ranked #11 in Best Places to Live by U.S. News). Position Description:

This position will provide software integration support to the Model Based Engineering (MBE) Team in the MSFC Technical Performance and Integration Office. This position will use Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) as a basis to facilitate the engineering software integration for a Digital Thread/Digital Engineering system design environment for use at MSFC and across NASA. Specific tasks would involve integration of MBE software tools into the MSFC and NASA IT environments, especially in the areas of ICAM (Identity Credentials and Access Management) and automated user management.

System engineering software support to be provided by the candidate includes the following responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the engineering software integration necessary to create and support a rich digital engineering design environment with multiple tools.

  • Work to align the MBSE and related software infrastructure with existing NASA standards for processes, interfaces, and data and for carrying forward the Agency’s best practices.

  • Provide and develop expertise to enable data exchange pathways between different engineering software tools using NASA interchange standards.

  • Assist in coordinating between with the various organizational entities responsible for tasks such as licensing, provisioning, hosting, maintenance, monitoring, and advanced technical support for operating the Agency-wide engineering design environment.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer, Mechanical, Systems or Information Technology or related technical discipline is required. Degree from an ABET accredited institution preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a minimum of a Masters with at least 3 years of experience, or BS with at least 5 years of experience.

Personnel are required to be self-directed, effective team players familiar with working in a dynamic work environment capable of working with engineering and management across MSFC and NASA.

The candidate should also have the following qualifications:

  • A strong technical ability to understand and communicate with engineering staff at many levels.

  • Familiarity with modern IT architectures, deployments, and operating procedures. Related desirable skills include a familiarity with Linux and Windows in an enterprise environment, scripting using bash and Python, and tools used by NASA ICAM.

  • Excellent inter-personal communication skills and the ability to promote collaboration with teams at different NASA centers and help end users with MBE tools.

  • Ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written status and reports.

  • Experience with implementing and supporting MBE applications and capabilities in an enterprise environment.

  • Experience with NASA mission requirements and NASA specific IT requirements is desirable.

Essential Functions

Work Environment:

General office environment (100%). Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<5%).

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (<10%).

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance:

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions:

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
