Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) is comprised of 10 companies and is located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL (ranked #11 in Best Places to Live by U.S. News). Position Description:

This position will provide technical leadership and systems engineering support to the Space Launch System (SLS) EUS Subsystem Manager(s) including the managers for Test and Production.

Responsibilities:

The EUS Systems Engineer’s responsibilities include:

  • Establish and maintain effective technical interfaces with the Prime contractors:

  • Facilitate face-to-face meetings

  • Develop technical and partnering agreements

  • Coordinate data needs and deliverables

  • Implement technical actions

  • Arrange contractor support for insight tasks

  • Arrange Operations engineering support in response to contractor requests

  • Guide and evaluate contractor efforts, assess technical progress in relation to the established schedule and resources allocation, and communicate status.

  • Manage Data Requirements Documents and contractor deliverables intended for Operations team use.

  • Represent Level II Operations Engineering policy and requirements tothe EUS Sub-element.

  • Define, develop, and evaluate flight and ground systems operational requirements and objectives, mission requirements, and supportability design considerations.

  • Participate in trade studies involving several engineering disciplines that result in new design guidelines and have a profound effect on program or mission capability and operating procedures.

  • Evaluate design requirements and limitations of an uncertain nature, under which systems and/or equipment must operate.

  • As appropriate, overseedesign, development, integration, test, evaluation, operations, and long-term sustainment of flight vehicle and/or ground infrastructure, software, and associated systems.

  • As appropriate, integratecomponents, assemblies, subsystems, and systems into the overall ground and flight system/vehicle.

  • Analyze flight hardware for logistics support and ground support equipment requirements.

  • Exercise aerospace engineering knowledge, insight, and judgment in identifying and resolving technical failures, performance deficiencies, design faults on systems, equipment, and/or hardware.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

A degree in aerospace, mechanical, systems or a related engineering field or discipline is required. Degree from an ABET accredited institution preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a BS with at least 15 years of experience, or a master’s with at least 13 years of experience, in aerospace systems/programs/projects.

The candidate is required to have/be:

  • Experience in project planning and technical integration.

  • Knowledgeof spacevehicle design and interfaces, system design, system engineering and integration.

  • Familiar with thedevelopment, integration, and processes for Launch Commit Criteria (LCC), Operations & Maintenance Requirements (OMR), Logistics Support Analysis, Flight Rules, Day-of-LaunchSupport/Timelines, GroundSupport Equipment and Integrated Test & Checkout.

  • Experience developing and documenting requirements, processes, and/or procedures associated with aerospace flight and ground hardware design, development, production, test, verification, evaluation, integration, and/or operations.

  • Experience reading/interpreting/understanding hardware engineering drawings.

  • Experience supporting, organizing or leading technical/milestone reviews and discussions.

  • Self-motivation and skill as a team player, familiar with working in a dynamic work environment.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering project briefings.

  • Experience negotiating and collaborating to resolve complex technical problems and breaking down complex problems or issues into manageable pieces.

  • Excellent written and oral technical communication skills, with the ability to clearly define and describe a technical subject to peers across various engineering disciplines.

  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams & Outlook).

Desired qualifications and experience (presence of one or more of these qualifications will be used as a selection factor):

  • Experience with troubleshooting and solving problems associated with ground and/or flight hardware.

  • An understanding and knowledge of the current SLS program and a working understanding of the Stages and EUS interfaces.

  • Familiarity with NASA Systems Engineering policies and procedures related to technical management

  • Experience in systems/subsystems/hardware production, test, transportation, Ground Support Equipment, and Operations Integration

Essential Functions

Work Environment:

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance:

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions:

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
