Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) is comprised of 10 companies and is located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL (ranked #11 in Best Places to Live by U.S. News). The key purpose of the position is to plan and perform software development and integration activities in support of the Exploration Upper Stage (EUS), Systems Integration Laboratory (SIL) Hardware-in-the-Loop facility (HWIL), and multiple Software Development Facilities (SDFs) that will be used to verify the integrated avionics system for the Space Launch System (SLS) at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).
The Software Development Engineer participates in design and implementation of automation tools for lab configuration, lab maintenance / monitoring, and data analysis. The tools support real-time HWIL simulation systems used in integration activities for the NASA Space Launch System program at MSFC. This individual develops and recommends methods, tools, and designs as a member of a multi-functional laboratory automation development team.
The candidate collects, interprets and documents system requirements; participates in component, subsystem and system concept designs; develops and recommends methods, tools and designs and participates as a member of a multifunctional laboratory automation development team. Some functions of the position are as follows:
Perform software systems engineering functions as required.
Analyze and develop software per customer requirements.
Implement source code per detailed designs.
Support software integration troubleshooting and bug-fix activities.
Develop and execute test plans and procedures.
Conduct and participate in design and code reviews.
Enter or update documentation into appropriate control systems.
Troubleshoot and correct test automation anomalies.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet performance goals.
Produce documentation and user training materials to assist users in the operation of software.
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or technical related field is required. Degree from an ABET institution preferred. Typically, educational requirements are a BS with 5-10 years of experience. Additional requirements and/or desired attributes:
Experience in developing software in Python is preferred.
Experience with Linux, Windows 10, and Linux shell scripting is preferred.
Exposure to Scrum/Agile process with Jira, Rally, or Team Foundation Server is desirable.
Design and develop python code, unit tests, documentation. Develop continuous integration pipelines. Participate in agile team meetings. Develop integration test plans, participate in integration testing in a HWIL lab environment

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines:
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
