Responsibilities:

The engineer will be responsible for assignments requiring application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for the nonmetallic Thermal Protection System (TPS) materials, paints, primers, and coatings under the guidance of senior engineers. Duties will include work instruction development, planning control, data collection and analysis, and other tasks as assigned. The engineer will be required to communicate (verbal and written) with engineers, technicians, management, and NASA customers to convey relevant information in a timely manner.

The engineer is required to provide daily support to the Non-Metallic Materials Branch at MSFC.

Here’s what you’ll need :

BS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering at an ABET accredited University. 0-5 years’ experience with product/process planning and support for development and testing of materials. This position is for a candidate with a willingness to learn and adapt to the changing environments of technology development.

Required Skills:

· Ability to develop technical instructions

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Ability to work in a diverse team environment and willingness to learn from others of all levels and positions.

Experience with parts fabrication/manufacturing methods, specification compliance, and safety protocols/equipment is desired.

Experience with aerospace materials is a plus.

Physical Requirements: Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk in the MSFC NASA facility (55%). Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and our customer at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (5%). Requires ability to walk between floors and between multiple buildings at NASA facilities (10%). Requires ability to be around lab and other TPS equipment in a safe manner (30%).

Work Environment: Office environment (70%). Lab environment (30%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers and all levels of management (100%). Requires ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires excellent organizational skills (100%).

Equipment and Machines: Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, copier, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance: Normal hours are 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., 5 days a week. Attendance and being prompt is important to provide continuous service to the customer. Overtime is minimal, but important when required (<10%).

Other Essential Functions:

Requires ability to make rational decisions and exercise good judgment (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
