Jacobs is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Roadway Engineer in our Irvine, CA office with experience on transportation projects. This position will provide engineering on various transportation projects for Caltrans, local agencies, and alternative delivery projects, including design-build.
Work will be performed under direct supervision of a Senior Project Manager with the goal of developing into an independent team member capable of leading design for projects with minimal supervision.
Flexibility in work assignments is required and may include other facets of Civil Engineering such as roadway, freeway, and light rail transit projects (LRT), and alternative delivery including design-build projects. This position includes opportunities to work on large-scale, high-profile transportation projects throughout the United States.
Performs civil design calculations for a variety of projects, sketches, technical comparisons and similar technical work as required by assignment
Coordinates project assignments with those of other engineers and technicians in his/her discipline group.
Reviews drawings supplied by contractors, clients, and engineers then recommends necessary changes.
Researches code issues and works with City, State, and County officials.
Researches design options and documents findings for Project Engineers and/or Project Managers.
Provides project cost estimating.
Attends design review meetings, and interacts with clients as his or her level of experience progresses
Assists with other duties assigned by Project Engineers and/or Project Managers.
Perform engineering design tasks for roadway projects from conceptual design to final design. This includes having a good working knowledge of the entire project life cycle.
Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
Have a strong working knowledge of roadway design software tools
Mentor and develop junior staff while providing valuable input into design Best Practices.
Have a positive team-oriented attitude
Lead and coordinate design activities between staff, subcontractors, and clients
Identify schedule and cost variances and develop recommendations for corrective action
Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance
Coordinate the planning, staffing, scheduling, budget management, quality control, safety and organization of subcontractors and internal technical and support staff
Maintain a close relationship with clients and track upcoming project opportunities and collaborate on project pursuits, if needed.
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering is required
Minimum of 10 years of progressive transportation design experience is desired
Registration as a CA Professional Engineer (PE) is required
Knowledge of and experience using CADD/Design Software (MicroStation, InRoads, AutoCAD)
Proficient with MS office products (MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
Perform highway/roadway design including horizontal and vertical alignment, drainage, and cross sections
Prepare associated calculations, reports and spreadsheets
Assist in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates
Prepare preliminary / concept studies and reports
Working knowledge with Caltrans, AASHTO, MUTCD, and FHWA design manuals and standards
Previous work experience with highway geometrics and/or maintenance-of-traffic is desired
Technical ability to lead the roadway design and create design (PS&E) submittal packages
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with colleagues in team environment, and build relationships with internal and external clients
Attend meetings and interacts with clients
May supervise the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project
Occasional travel may be required
