The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

This position is responsible for management of the Support Services Development Team within the Launch Control Systems (LCS) Software (SW) organization. This team is responsible for the SW build process and development teams to include Dev Operations responsible for partnering with System Engineering and Software Test teams to turn conceptual ideas into working, reliable software products. As the manager of this team, you will establish progress milestones, leading the team to deliver superior results for NASA's Launch Control System at Kennedy Space Center.

Responsibilities

Specific areas of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Provide overall leadership and direction for specific software development teams.

o Use Agile project management methods to align LCS milestones and deliverables with development plans and team resources

o Provide leadership to ensure code quality, standards, and requirements are met

o Communicate organizational policies and procedures; develop, coordinate, and implement policies and procedures for areas of responsibility

o Communicate and administer quality, safety, and housekeeping standards

o Define, alter, and re-emphasize department responsibilities as needed

· Resolve multi-department conflicts

· Identify and prepare resource estimates and comply with budget limitations

· Assist senior management with integrating, coordinating, and partnering PPBE and Operating Plan input for GSDO with NASA and COMET Business Offices, COMET Directors, and NASA GSDO customers

· Lead, evaluate, and mentor COMET department personnel

· Perform other duties as assigned

Here’s what you’ll need :

Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in related management area; and at least seven (7) years of experience in progressively challenging technical or management positions, including successfully leading projects and/or teams.

Job Requirements

· Experience with software development and integration processes

· Experience with formal test activities and processes

· Experience with Agile project management methods including managing project backlog, sprint planning, and retrospective ceremonies

· Requires demonstrated leadership skills as evidenced by prior managerial, supervisory, or other leadership experience

· Must be able to excel in a fast pace and evolving project

· Experience interfacing with customers and senior management

· Demonstrate written and verbal presentation skills for delivery of technical subject matter to internal and external customers and the management team

· A successful department manager must be able to:

o Provide alternatives to challenges that are creative, well thought out, and can be effectively implemented

o Able to lead a diverse group of individuals

Physical Requirements

· Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for trouble shooting.

· Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection, and other associated personal protective equipment.

· Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.

· Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.

· Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.

Work Environment

· Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.

· Position may require individual to travel daily to different areas on site.

· Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand, is required to access various locations on the facility.

· Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary.

· All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and company safety standards.

Equipment and Machines

· Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules.

· Variety of equipment used in testing.

Attendance

· Full-time work hours.

· Position may require occasional overtime, including weekend work, depending on task.

· Must be dependable and punctual.

· Shift work may be required.

Other Essential Functions

· Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication.

· Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.

· Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

· Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.

· Government security clearance may be required in the future.

· Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
