The Launch Control Systems team is responsible for designing, building and testing the software, hardware and networking systems that will be used to launch the next generation rocket for NASA. As part of the Triage team, you will be responsible for system analysis, troubleshooting and testing of the next launch control system to launch NASA astronauts into space.

The Launch Control System is a large scale, multi-user, server-based system. It is comprised of hardware, networks, firewalls, multiple operating systems, and applications. The triage team is responsible for troubleshooting design non-conformances, providing corrective action recommendations, and supporting the operational performance of the system.

Job Description:

The specific tasks you will be responsible for include but are not limited to:

  • Provide Systems Engineering troubleshooting support to the Launch Control System (LCS) Development and Operations teams in the following areas:

  • Troubleshoot software and hardware on the Launch Control System

  • Provide short term basic guidance to users when anomalies are found

  • Collect data from the user environment

  • Analyze collected data from anomalies

  • Document anomalies

  • Communicate set status/issues to users, managers, and technical staff

  • Responsible for analyzing, understanding and working with a variety of in-house developed and commercial software packages.

  • Responsible for identification of dependencies and characteristics of software applications and hardware at all levels of the OSI model.

  • Requires the ability to interpret written information and effectively communicate verbally and in writing. May be required to provide verbal status to management on occasion.

Here’s What You’ll Need:


BS degree in Software Engineering from an accredited college or university and minimum four (4) years of progressive, relevant experience. Additional education may be substituted for experience.

  • Must have experience troubleshooting in client/server architectures and in the integration, debugging, and troubleshooting of software implementations .

  • Requires knowledge of software development and systems engineering.

  • System Administration in a UNIX environment is a bonus.

  • Experience in C++, Java, Perl, Python, expect, shell scripting, or XML is a bonus.

  • Knowledge of Network/Enterprise monitoring/management tools such as HP Operations Manager, NNM, SNMP, Wireshark is a bonus.

Essential Functions:

Physical Requirements

  • Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.

  • Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.

  • Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.

Work Environment

  • Work will mainly be done inside, but fieldwork can be a combination of outside and inside depending on the project.

  • Working at heights and in confined spaces may be required.

  • Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.

  • Climbing ladders and platforms will be necessary.

  • All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.

Equipment and Machines

  • Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules.

  • Variety of equipment may be used.


  • Full-time regular work hours between Monday-Friday.

  • Position may require occasional overtime including weekend work depending on task.

  • Must be dependable and punctual.

  • Shift work may be required.

Other Essential Functions

  • I f offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required.

  • Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication.

  • Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.

  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

  • Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.

  • Government security clearance is not currently required but may be required in the future.

  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
