The Launch Control Systems team isresponsible for designing, building and testing the software, hardware andnetworking systems that will be used to launch the next generation rocket(Space Launch System) for NASA. As part of the Launch Control System Team, youwill be responsible for taking conceptual ideas and making them a reality.
The Thread Lead / System Engineer is theprocess owner for Software and Hardware development. You will be the drivingforce for turning concepts and ideas into tangible working products. Thesuccessful candidate will be able to lead the team through the multiple phasesof the product delivery life cycle; requirements definition, conceptualdesigns, design reviews, product development, testing and troubleshooting,product and document delivery. The ability to solve problems, build on newideas, and assemble seemingly incongruent information into an actionable planwill be key traits to bring the team to repeatable, successful solutions.
Areas of responsibilityinclude, but are not limited to:
Responsible for End to End technicalintegration of requirements through the product lifecycle
Responsible in providing a clear productdefinition and its incremental buildup at each software and hardware iteration.
Responsible to review, impact, control anddocument any requirements changes.
Participate in Design Panels, technicalassessments and analysis tasks to understand how new capabilities will impactthe products, along with dependencies from other software as it relates tothese new capabilities.
Participate in problem reviews and work withSoftware and Hardware Development to determine how changes to the software/hardwarewill impact other areas of the system.
Manage and contribute to the requirementstracking system
Work with NASA processes and tools andcoordinate with NASA personnel
Clearly communicating progress and forwardplan to the team, management and customers
Perform other duties as assigned.
BS degree in Computer or other STEM discipline from an accredited college or university
Will consider experienced candidates at multiple engineering levels, minimum 4 years of progressive, relevant experience required.
Must have experience working in a software development environment.
Must have experience working with requirements (development, definition, documentation, etc.)
Must have leadership experience (Project Management, team lead, test lead, product owner, etc)
Requires the ability to interpret written information and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Experience writing technical documentation for building, integrating and analyzing software/hardware systems products and configurations
Proficiency with Linux Operating System is a bonus
C and/or Java programming experience is a bonus
Create presentations and present to management and customers as need arises.
Ifoffered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/GreenCard holder of the United States is required.
Will be required to climb stairs in order to access equipment for trouble shooting.
Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.
Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
- Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.
Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
Position may require daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.
Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary.
All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company
- safety standards.
Equipment and Machines
Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules.
- Variety of equipment used in testing.
Full-time regular work hours between Monday-Friday.
Position may require occasional overtime including weekend work depending on task.
Must be dependable and punctual.
- Shift work may be required.
Other Essential Functions
Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication.
Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
Government security clearance may be required in the future.
