Under minimal supervision, the SCADA Operator – Water/Wastewater works at a journeyman level monitoring the water and wastewater systems as well as the entire SCADA system for proper operations. Receives emergency and priority trouble calls from all commands outside normal Trouble Desk working hours and notifies the Trouble Desk of these calls so they may be entered into EDWin and/or Maximo. Responsible for calling in necessary craftspersons to facilitate repairs on priority and emergency trouble calls occurring outside of normal working hours, on weekends or holidays. Maintains various operational records and logs and produces operational reports. During emergencies and natural disasters, oversees the flow of information and reports, coordinates actions when necessary, and ensures response plans are followed. Interfaces closely with the appropriate manager(s) to ensure key operational matters are performed, communicated, and documented.

Tests water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities using colorimeter, turbidimeter, and conductivity meter. Records data such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and water pressure. May operate potable water purification plant to supply drinking water. May treat wastewater from plant preparatory to pumping water into rivers and streams or city mains. Operates wastewater sewage treatment, processing and equipment in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage and water. Monitors controls panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of water and sewage. Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings, and tests results to determine load requirements. Responsible for starting and stopping pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of water and sewage through filtering, settling, and aeration processes.

Maintains a log of operations and is responsible for recording meter and chlorine readings. May collect water and sewage samples and conduct laboratory tests using testing equipment. May operate and maintaining power-generating equipment to provide electricity for plant. Water/Wastewater SCADA Operator shall monitor and oversee the water/wastewater system, receive system alarms, locate trouble areas, dispatch duty water/wastewater operators to affected trouble locations. Responsible for providing SCADA-generated alarm summaries, load reports, and generates reports and summaries when requested by BOSC utility management or other designated authorities. Water/Wastewater SCADA Operator shall continually monitor performance of the Water/Wastewater SCADA System, identify SCADA operational malfunctions, request corrective actions, and report all uncorrected malfunctions. Assists Thermal and High Voltage SCADA Operators by taking and reporting various Thermal and High Voltage SCADA system parameters when requested or in responding to system emergency conditions. Performs other duties as assigned.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • High school education or equivalent

  • Three (3) years verifiable experience in treatment, clarification, and purification of water and sewage.

  • Must possess Georgia State Class II Water and Wastewater Operator licenses

  • Must possess the tools of their trade

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license

  • Must have and wear hard-toed safety shoes which meet ASTM F2413-05 standards

  • Successful candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must continually meet eligibility requirements for access to all areas of Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.

  3. Personnel complete training within 6 months of employment or job assignment 40 CFR 262.34 (a)(4) and 40 CFR 2665.16 (b) and 40 hour HAZWOPER initially (within first 6 months) and 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher annually.
