This is a NASA Test and Evaluation contract position. This is a reserve corps, temporary/intermittent, position. Reserve Corps employees will be used on a call-in basis to assist with covering shifts in the NASA/WSTF Dispatcher Center. The anticipated schedule for this position will be every other Friday with the potential for covering additional shifts as needed. This position may require working different shifts; to include day, swing, and graveyard shifts.
Operates a multi-line telephone and emergency notification system in the NASA Fire and Emergency Dispatch Center responsible for handling all emergency calls and radio communications for the department as well as security radio transmissions. This position monitors a variety of alarm panels and Security monitoring systems necessary for the protection of personnel and normal, daily operations. The Position is related to a Tele-communicator who will provide emergency instructions to callers and respond to questions related to site operations. Perform various administrative duties as required. Must be able to multi-task. Must be able to work without close supervision and be able to make independent decisions.
UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION
Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, climbing stairs, and possibly the ability to access remote structures.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT
Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility. Uneven surfaces exist in office and shop areas and must be traversed. Must be able to function as a member of a team in a face paced environment. All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS
Computer work will be required. Use of calculator, printer, fax, scanner, telephone, filing cabinets, and other standard office equipment is required.
CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE
Attendance and punctuality are essential in this highly collaborative environment. Overtime work may be required in support of test project schedules or other priority assignments as determined by management.
OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must exhibit professional behavior in all interaction with peers/management and with customers. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Dress must be appropriate for the position and not pose a safety risk or hazard to the employee or others in accordance with NASA and Company policies. Must be a U.S Citizen. Must possess a valid state driver’s license. Must pass a Federal background investigation. Must be able to pass a physical examination as determined by the NASA White Sands Test Facility and the Company for the job classification. Must submit to pre-employment drug testing. Must maintain site access to NASA facilities and computer systems. Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Prefer one (1) year of experience as Emergency Services Dispatcher. Must have working knowledge of Fire and Security/Law Enforcement Operations. Must obtain New Mexico Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification within one (1) year. Must be able to obtain NCIC Certification once hired. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
