Your Impact:

This is a Test Evaluation and Support Team contract position (TEST2) contract position at the NASA – White Sands Test Facility. This position may be assigned to Jacobs Technology or a teammate company. Successful candidate will serve as an electrical engineer in the JWSG Facilities & Operations Support Department, Design and Project Management Branch. This position involves the practical application of engineering skills to perform facilities electrical engineering projects.

The successful candidate will need to have the ability to understand and support electrical high (>25KV), medium (25KV-480V) to low (480V-24V) AC power distribution systems, emergency power systems, motor control, fire protection, lightning protection, arc flash, grounding, security systems, and fire alarm systems. Basic knowledge of communications systems, as well as instrumentation & control (I&C) is needed. PLC and Logic are not required but preferred. He/she will also assist with preparation of design packages, construction document packages, and assist with testing, inspection, and startup of electrical and I&C equipment. The capability to work independently on project assignments and to multi-task is essential. A demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications is required. Additional knowledge of AutoCAD, SKM Power Tool, EST3-SDU and Fireworks software is a plus. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program and three (3) to five (5) years of related engineering experience, or MS degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program and two (2) to three (3) years of related engineering experience. Degrees in Engineering Technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position. Register PE licensed in NM preferred.

Essential Functions:

UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION

Will be required to climb stairs in order to access equipment for trouble shooting. Will be required to wear personnel protective equipment as required for the location and conditions of work. Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing. Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs/ladders, and access to remote structures. Typically required to lift and hold up to 30 pounds. Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT

Will be required to work inside and outside throughout WSMR and remote sites. Position requires individual to travel to different areas on site. Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility. All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.

EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS

Computer work required. Knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook is necessary. Use of calculator, printer, fax, scanner, telephone, filing cabinets, and other standard office equipment is required. Operation of a government motor vehicle may be required. Ability to use specific facility design software such as Trane Trace or WaterCAD consider a plus.

CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE

Regular attendance and punctuality is required. Occasional overtime may be required in support of test project schedules or other priority assignments as determined by management or customer needs. Normal working hours are nine (9) hour per day with some flexibility based on pre-approval. A condensed work schedule, allowing alternate Fridays off, is typically in use for each two week pay cycle (9-80 schedule).

OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Dress must be appropriate for the position and not pose a safety risk or hazard to the employee or others in accordance with NASA and Company policies. Must be a U.S Citizen. Must possess a valid state driver’s license. Must pass a Federal background investigation. Must be able to pass a physical examination as determined by the NASA White Sands Test Facility and the Company for the job classification. Must submit to pre-employment drug testing. Must maintain site access to NASA facilities and computer systems.
