Engineer II


This is a NASA TestEvaluation and Support Team (TEST2) contract position at the NASA – White Sands Test Facility. This position may be assigned to JacobsTechnology or a teammate company.

Position involves working in the Flight, Test,and Projects Branch in the Technical Services Department. Duties may include processing, failureanalysis, repair and acceptance testing of ISS and/or Space Shuttle OMS RCShardware. Responsibilities may includemaintenance of existing electrical and mechanical systems, design of newsystems and procedure development to test or evaluate newly developed hardware. Under the direction of experienced engineeringpersonnel, other duties include broader engineering tasks and assignments suchas the preparation of computations, specifications, and reports with limitedcomplexity, application of standard engineering practices and techniques. Knowledge in Project Management techniquesand software such as Microsoft Project, is desirable. Successful candidates expected to provideprofessional engineering support with increasing independent accomplishment.


Requires an ABET-accredited Engineering degree, Mechanical Engineering Preferred. BS degree and one (1) to two (2) years related engineering experience, or MSdegree. Degrees in engineeringtechnology do not qualify for this position. Engineering experience in advance flight engine refurbishment, design,procedure development to conduct engine or component level processing such asrefurbishment, troubleshooting, decontamination, and handling of flightqualified components and support equipment. Experience in the design of equipment and test systems utilized to testand process hardware qualified for flight is desirable. Knowledge of Space Shuttle OrbitalManeuvering Subsystem (OMS) Reaction Control System (RCS) hardware; and/orInternational Space Station (ISS) hardware is desirable. Excellent verbal and written communication,interpersonal, and organizational skills are required. Experience in a union working environment ishighly desirable. Must be a United StatesCitizen. Must have a valid driver'slicense.

Essential Functions:


Position requires computer operation to accomplishtasks. Must be able to sit for extendedduration to perform some tasks. Must beable to work in shop, laboratory, and test facility environment. This includes standing, walking, andoccasional climbing or crawling around test facilities. Some WSTF test systemsare located outdoors and/or in hazardous test areas. Some work will require use of personalprotective equipment, including respirators, hearing protection, eye protectionand other associated protective equipment. Individuals must be able to pass physical examinations necessary forapproval to work in these areas.


Majority of work is in a climate-controlled officeenvironment; however work in an outdoor environment is also required attimes. Workmay extend to laboratory, shop, or test environments. As necessary, must be able to travelto other work areas, be aware of safety requirements for those areas, and workwithin those constraints (e.g. access procedures and proper PPE). Must have theabilityto work with hazardous materials in a Hazardous Testing Environment (materialssuch as, but not limited to, high pressure gases, hazardous fluids/propellants,explosives, and cryogenics).


Common personal computer software includingMicrosoft Windows and Office 2007. Will needto work with Microsoft Project and related packages to accomplish work. May be required to drive government vehicles,must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.


Regular attendance and punctuality are essentialin this highly collaborative environment and required for consistent customerservice. This is a full time position which may require overtime in support ofproject schedules, or other priority assignments as determined by management. Support to a second or third shift may berequired in support of high priority test programs. Occasional travel may berequired.


Test programs at WSTF often have anaggressive schedule with daily on-site interaction with a NASA projectmanager. It is vital that theindividuals involved are team-players, willing and able to multi-task and redirecttheir efforts as needed for the success of the project. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’slicense. Must pass a Federal backgroundinvestigation and maintain access to government facilities and computersystems. Must be able to function as a member of a team in a fast pacedenvironment. All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance withNASA and Company safety standards.
