This is a Test Evaluation and Support Team contract position (TEST2) contract position at the NASA – White Sands Test Facility. This position may be assigned to Jacobs Technology or a teammate company.
Engineering responsibilities include: DDT&E of hazardous test systems; assess compatibility & performance of customer test articles; interpret and analyze test data to assess component and/or system level design. Must have excellent communication skills, customer & safety focus, and work well in a team environment. Domestic or international travel may be required.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following areas: Experience in testing & analysis of components or test articles especially in liquid and gaseous oxygen, pressure system design & buildup (ASME B31.3), and demonstrated strength in leadership and management of their work. Candidates should have a strong interest in Oxygen testing and hazards evaluation.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
BS degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program and 3 to 5 years of related engineering experience, or MS degree from an ABET accredited engineering program and 2 to 3 years of related engineering experience or Ph.D. from an ABET accredited engineering program. Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.
Experience in design, development, test, & evaluation of oxygen systems is preferred. Experience with high pressure and/or high flow oxygen systems, equipment or components is required. Experience in project planning, estimating, requirements development, and design verification/validation is highly desirable. Experience developing the following types of documents Project Plan, Test Plan, Requirements Definition, Hazards Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Compatibility Assessments, Safety Review, System Readiness Review, Preliminary and Critical Design Review, Test Readiness Review, and Technical Data Report are all highly desirable.
UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION
Position involves extended periods of sitting. Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, use of stairs, and access to remote structures. Typically required to lift and hold up to 10 pounds. Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT
Desk/office work and test area work. As necessary, must be able to travel to other work areas and be aware of safety requirements for those areas. Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility. All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS
Computer work required. Use of printer/copiers, calculator, printer, fax, scanner, telephone, filing cabinets, and other standard office equipment is required.
CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE
Regular attendance and punctuality is required. Occasional overtime may be required in support of test project schedules or other priority assignments as determined by management or customer needs. Normal working hours are nine (9) hour per day with some flexibility based on pre-approval. A condensed work schedule, allowing alternate Fridays off, is typically in use for each two week pay cycle (9-80 schedule). Personnel in the branch are cross-trained to allow for normal planned vacation and sick leave.
OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel is necessary. Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Dress must be appropriate for the position and not pose a safety risk or hazard to the employee or others in accordance with NASA and Company policies. Must submit to pre-employment drug testing. If applicable to the specific job assignment, must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be a U.S Citizen. Must pass a Federal background investigation. Must maintain site access to NASA facilities and computer systems.
