We are seeking to invest in building a strong and diverse team of Social Value experts to bring innovative experience to our clients. Jacobs are working with clients across the globe, including on flagship UK programmes such as the Transpennie Route Upgrade, Palace of Westminster and Lower Thames Crossing to develop social value solutions for clients and our communities. In addition, in 2019 Jacobs acquired 50% of Simetrica, a fast-growing U.K.-based organization that specializes in social value measurement and wellbeing analysis. Together, Simetrica-Jacobs and Jacobs provide solutions for our clients that drives consideration of social value at every point in a project’s lifecycle, driving outcomes that benefit communities and people from concept, through to design and delivery.

As a Senior Social Value/Skills and Employment Manager/ Associate Director , you’ll be based in any of our UK offices (though we are open to discuss remote working solutions). You will work with our established team on one of our flagship infrastructure projects in Scotland to deliver its education, skills and employment programme, including the development of solutions from inception, through to design and implementation, on behalf our client.

You will also play a key role in further developing our social value capabilities and solutions for clients across the UK, including upskilling our teams and supporting work winning for the business. Jacobs has a large portfolio of long-term contracts working on some of the UK and Ireland’s most high-profile infrastructure projects and we want to grow our social value capabilities to meet this ever-increasing portfolio of projects. Our team is delivering projects from concept stage through to construction and we are looking for enthusiastic, adaptable staff to join this highly successful team.

The successful person will join a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects both locally and internationally. You will sit in the Stakeholder Engagement & Communications team (circa 65 no.), within our wider Water and Environment business, with a link into our wider team of social value specialists across the globe.

The role will include:

Social Value and Skills and Employment Strategy – design, develop and manage social value and specifically skills and employment strategies aligned to local, industry and client needs. This includes engagement with key stakeholder, including communities and partners, and gaining client endorsement of the strategy.

Analysis – Identify and understand local, regional and national trends relating to skills and employment and develop appropriate solutions.to meeting skills gaps and shortages in a sustainable way that create lasting positive legacies for the communities we serve.

Stakeholder engagement – identification of key internal and external stakeholder, development and management of these relationships to deliver social value/skills and employment priorities. This include forming partnerships with public and third sector stakeholders to maximise outcomes.

Application of the strategy: development and delivery of solutions that embed our desired social value outcomes in project delivery from including development of procurement questions and clauses, processes, procedures and policies relating to skills and employment. Development of skills and training initiatives, partnerships with training providers and industry bodies, funding organisations and key performance indicators.

Solution development –the development of innovative skills and employment solutions including business cases, funding solutions and design and delivery of initiatives on behalf of the client.

Managing teams - Leading, coaching, and upskilling other members of the team in social value, skills and employment and other related areas.

Reporting, measurement, and assurance – Develop and deliver ongoing monitoring, assurance and evaluation of skills and employment/social value outcomes

Here’s What You’ll Need:

• Experience in local needs analysis and stakeholder engagement (internal and external)

• Experience leading the development of complex social value, skills and employment strategies and engagement plan for projects and programmes (ideally infrastructure)

• Highly knowledgeable about social value, skills and employment, including relevant legislation, Government policies across the UK, and the skills and employment agenda particularly in relation to the construction sector.

• Experience of large-scale infrastructure projects, and understanding of procurement processes on major programmes

• Thorough understanding of skills and employment funding and funding application processes

• Experience in delivering, contracting, monitoring and evaluating social value outcomes.

• High level of communication and negotiation skills

• Experience in delivering innovative, create solutions in skills and employment.

• Analytical and able to understand local and national trends

• Excellent writing skills, including development of strategies, plans, reports and funding applications

• Good level of analytical skills and able to understand local and national trends

• Flexibility to travel to meet project demands

• A degree or equivalent experience or qualification in sustainability, social value, or related subject

• A proven track record working as part of a team
