Environment Procurement Lead

Role objective:

To provide environmental support for the Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) programme procurement activities, including the main works contracts. To be the main interface between the environmental team and the procurement team and to provide and/or coordinate environmental advice and information as required for all LTC works contracts.


  • To lead and coordinate the environmental input to the preparation of contract documents, under instruction from the Environment Workstream Lead

  • To review, support and interface as required during procurement, including the competitive dialogue process

  • Produce or coordinate deliverables in relation to the procurement process as required

  • To coordinate input from environmental specialists as required

  • To be the principal point of contact and integration between the environment team and the procurement team (and other teams as required)

  • To provide input and produce deliverables within programme and budget

  • Will be based in Beaufort House four or five days per week, other than when attending external meetings.

  • To deliver parent company project governance requirements as required

  • To consider project legacy and in all decision making in the same way as cost, risk and time

  • To look for ways to encourage innovative thinking around how to improve legacy benefits

  • To hold health, safety and welfare (HSW) as a key project value and to participate in the creation, development and implementation of HSW strategies by the project leadership team

Previous experience:

  • Environmental impact assessment at management or coordination level for at least one major project

  • Experience in contract documentation/ procurement stage, preferably for a Highways England project

  • Demonstrable experience of delivering environmental components of projects to time, cost and quality standards


  • Is an experienced environmental professional with a good knowledge of environmental impact assessment

  • Practised in collating, reviewing and presenting environmental information from various disciplines

  • Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders

  • Excellent written communication skills

  • Enjoys working in a collaborative manner

  • Good interpersonal skills and personal resilience to working under stress/different styles of leadership/getting things done

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Word, PowerPoint and Excel; GIS skills an advantage.
