About the opportunity

Jacobs is committed to playing a leadership role in Global Energy Transition. Our European and Global teams are growing and we’re looking for a HVDC Convertor Station Lead to help deliver on our growing portfolio of Energy & Power projects across Europe and the wider business.

Our Energy & Power team provides a range of services to our Transmission and Distribution and Generation clients in addition to cross-market solutions to our non-energy clients.

Work-life balance and flexibility is a key focus area for Jacobs. Our team is based across the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia and Central Europe however we can be flexible about location and are happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours to suit you and our business. 

Responsibilities:

  • Utilising Layouts of converter stations including layout of Valve Hall, DC halls, Control &Protection (C&P) System and auxiliary systems.

  • Design of HVDC Main circuits

  • Design of HVDC Valves and balance of plant such as HVDC reactors, interface transformers, arm reactors, pre-insertion resistors, surge arresters, HV wall bushings, DC Voltage measurement system, DC

  • current measurement systems and auxiliary systems of converter station.

  • Understanding Single Line Diagrams (SLD)

  • Excellent knowledge of HVDC Converter Station (CS) design including the following:

  • Good overall knowledge of control and protection (C&P) system and its integration with HVDC valves

  • Very good understanding of HVDC operational scenarios, switching operations, scheme energisation, isolation, and mode change sequencing.

  • Auxiliary supply systems of converter station such as DNO connection, transformer tertiary connection and diesel generators.

  • Good understanding of Feasibility Studies (FS) and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) of HVDC systems.
