Your Impact:

The Restoration and Renewal Programme (R&R) has been established to tackle the significant work needed to protect the heritage of the Palace of Westminster and ensure it can continue to serve as home to the UK Parliament in the 21st century and beyond.

Given the poor condition of the fabric and systems of the Palace, the House of Commons Commission and House of Lords House Committee agreed that a major programme of restoration and renewal work must be carried out to protect and preserve the legacy of the Palace for future generations.

The R&R Programme Implementation Planning Team includes a group of Construction and Logistics Managers. This logistics manager role will provide essential logistics modelling and process design support for the Construction Logistics Strategy and the development of the schedule and cost estimate for the design schemes for the RIBA stages and the Business Case Outputs. The projects within the Programme will involve a variety of construction and logistics works derived from a design being developed around a number of technical disciplines. The challenge is to develop the most effective approach to delivering these works.

A key objective for the Delivery Authority is to complete the works while minimising the disruption to the users. Consequently, much of the work for this role will focus on developing the most effective combined workflow with technical specialists, to minimise disruption to users and determine the associated logistics requirements.

The logistics plan will use the estimated workforce and equipment for restoration and renewal, and describe the associated access, space and activity sequence required. An important part of developing the logistics plan will be participating in workshops with the various disciplines; conservation, design, engineering, and referring to the technical studies produced on the Programme.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Develop the process description for R&R construction and logistics works with all relevant stakeholders

  • Provide support to develop the cost and schedule estimates for the PMO Team

  • Provide support to the construction team developing the Construction Plan

  • Contribute to the development of the Programme Implementation Plan

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Essential

  • Substantial experience working on large scale projects

  • Experience applying Process Mapping/Workflow methods to describe physical operations

  • Experienced user of Excel and the Microsoft office suite

  • Report writing skills

Desirable

  • Knowledge of construction methods and CDM

  • Understanding of Kaizen/Poka-Yoke/Voice of the Customer (VOC)/Value Stream Mapping methods in an operational setting (LEAN)

  • Understanding of the warehouse management systems

LOCATION

This post will be located on the Parliamentary Estate, Westminster, London.

SECURITY

Selected candidate will be required to successfully complete pre-employment checks. This includes security vetting to Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) level unless otherwise specified. They may also be required to be cleared to an SC level at a later date.

Applicants should be aware that if they have resided outside of the UK for a total of more than two of the last five years, they are not usually eligible for CTC vetting (this will be assessed on a case by case basis).
