About the opportunity:

With the investment in train travel in the UK and mainland Europe, rail stations form an integral part of the opportunity for enhancing social mobility, improving connectivity, achieving net zero and commercial and residential development. Stations are the frontline, the shop window for passengers and customers, and by merging with the cities and places they serve and acting as a catalyst for transforming the areas around them, they have potential to be true nodes in a connected society.

We are seeking a self-motivated, inspirational leader with credible experience who will cocreate with our clients to understand their needs, to translate that understanding into a solutions driven account growth strategy that will help to position Jacobs at the forefront of delivering world-class stations.

What can you expect from the role?

Working closely with our Market Directors, Regional Directors, operational leads and Solutions & Technology team, the Rail Stations Account Manager will be responsible for the continuous development of our Rails Stations Value Proposition, responding to market trends and at the forefront of client engagement. Through gaining client insight and understanding the Rail Stations Account Lead will ensure that we capitalise on the volume of work in the Rail Stations space with the vision to become a market leader in Rail Station design and delivery.

The Rail Station Account Manager will be responsible for:

Strategy and Growth:

  • Backlog growth and forward strength of the pipeline

  • Evaluating, developing, directing and implementing a UK and Europe growth strategy for the rail stations market

  • Setting that growth strategy to direct where we should compete, how we should compete, assessing our capability to compete and what change is required to implement a successful strategy

  • Ensure that Jacobs is a visible industry leader through participation in industry, stakeholder and political engagement and network events, targeting marketing and communications that will drive your growth strategy

  • Build and align collaborative partnerships with key industry partners and stakeholders, and strategic supply chain partners.

Client Relationships:

  • Grow and maintain a network with current and potential clients utilising industry reputation, experience and knowledge to develop new business, new prospects and expand existing business and grow existing commissions

  • Understand the client’s businesses: drivers, outcomes, challenges, budget and spending forecasts, influencers, and stakeholders

  • Create and coordinate deep personal relationships with clients and act as their trusted advisor, including working with internal Jacobs contractor-facing stakeholders, to build relationships with contracting organisations to widen our routes to market

  • Serve as a client executive or sponsor for selected key clients

  • Coordinate and drive C-suite relationships with clients for Jacobs’ senior and executive leaders

  • Putting the passenger, local communities and end users first, you will lead and advocate for outcomes based thinking and solutions

  • Develop/ cocreate/ test value propositions to meet the client’s outcomes

  • Where the client has already developed its own solutions, but requires market response, lead on capturing and articulating the value of our proposals

  • Actively work to shape the client’s thinking around scope, procurement, commercial and contracting.

Leadership:

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the business and to operations colleagues

  • Lead the adoption of appropriate emerging technologies to deliver connected and sustainable solutions

  • Work in close collaboration with operations colleagues across the business units and with our Solutions & Technology community to inspire, motivate, and educate, internally and externally, so that we fully leverage our capabilities, client relationships, and expertise to deliver outcome focused solutions.

Delivery:

  • Drive continual improvement of our solutions and technology in delivery; using client engagement to track trends, performance, satisfaction and owning improvement initiatives

  • Oversight of all prospects, both sales led and operations led, with responsibility for clear delineation on who is leading each prospect, if not the Account Manager

  • Lead our top prospects through middle and end game, through which you will be responsible for:

  • Working with our Sales colleagues to identify, develop and actively engage filtering, promoting and progressing top prospects

  • Driving the development of the value proposition and converting the win plan into a compliant and compelling submission

  • Developing innovative risk and commercial solutions to manage risk exposure and optimise return on investment

  • Ensuring compliance with client requirements, internal sales process and governance

  • Closing out the contract signing and leading the handover of delivery to operations colleagues.

People:

  • Work with our business leaders to identify, charter, grow, develop and mentor an account team

  • Work with our business leaders teams to attract, include and develop diverse and highly talented workforce

Here’s What You’ll Need:

For this appointment, you will need to demonstrate client focus and an ability to create and maintain senior client relationships. You will have a broad understanding of the markets and sectors that Jacobs operates in, and experience of developing and implementing effective business strategies. You will have an excellent understanding of the public sector and a creative approach to developing solutions. You will demonstrate business acumen, and an understanding of Relationship Based Sales.

In addition to be able to perform the above responsibilities, the Rail Stations Account Manager will also demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Extensive leadership experience in strategy creation and implementation, and commensurate account growth; desirably in rail, aviation, or wider ground transportation or demonstrable experience of managing large multi-faceted clients.

  • Experience in similar client facing roles; operating and interacting at C-suite

  • Proven people management skills

  • Account management
