Jacobs Petroleum & Chemicals London Office undertakes a range of projects within the oil, gas and chemicals industry. We are a multi-disciplinary team serving clients internationally at all stages of projects. We are focused mostly on Front End Engineering Design and on Framework based Detailed Design activities. We operate from offices in Central London, Winnersh (Reading) and permanently located site offices on the south coast.

The Technology Director is primarily responsible for the day to day management of all the company’s process engineering activities, whether on contracts, proposals or internal studies.

Responsible for ensuring that the department is staffed with the personnel necessary to enable the company to successfully undertake projects within the company’s sphere of interest.

They are charged with ensuring that all personnel in charge are trained and developed so as to increase their efficiency and personal skills.

To assist in the company’s sales effort either personally or by nominating suitable staff.

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering and Chartered Engineer status

  • Proven track record of working in the process industries in similar roles

  • Knowledge and experience of working extensively in one or more of the following areas: downstream petrochemical processes, onshore gas processing and synthesis gas production.


1.1 Ensure that the best possible know-how is available to the company.

1.2 Ensure that the experience, gained by the company in the past years in the area of technology covered is effectively utilised to improve the company’s capabilities.

1.3 Maintain and improve the company’s methodology and design techniques in the light of new knowledge and changing needs of the industries served.

1.4 Assist in the development and acquisition of staff to ensure that there is sufficient spread of knowledge of technology within the department.

1.5 Apportion responsibility within the group for liaison with process licensors and/or vendors to ensure sensible contacts are maintained and the Company is kept abreast of all the latest developments within that technology area.


2.1 Appoint Lead Engineers to all specific activity within the group. Ensure that all work leaving the department is carried out fully according to the department’s Working Instructions and is correct in terms of scope of program and budget.

2.2 Be own Lead Engineer on projects, proposals and studies.

Sales Support

3.1 Provide assistance to the Sales Department in the preparation and presentation of proposals, specific presentations and general sales promotional activities.

3.2 Study the market place to identify trends and to recognise emerging projects.

General Management

4.1 Manage Process Engineers, support staff and assigned personnel working in the Process Group.

4.2 Appoint Technology Managers and Technology Specialists and define their responsibilities in the maintenance and improvements of the company’s technological and technique skills.

4.3 Grade engineers and staff in the group according to their skills and abilities. Organise all appraisals and ensure that recommendations are considered and acted on when appropriate.
