Jacobs Environmental Remediation Field Technician- Charleston, WV in Louisville, Kentucky

Jacobs is currently seeking a full-time Environmental Field Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be assigned to the project site in Charleston, WV. This is an on-site position in Charleston, WV and cannot be performed remotely.

The responsibilities will consist of a wide variety of field (primary) and office (secondary) tasks related to the operation of remediation systems and the implementation of environmental investigations and remediation projects.

The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance, and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoors, outdoors, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous exposures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee or perform field work tasks under minimal to no supervision under a partially variable schedule such as remediation system maintenance, repairs, subcontractor oversight, inspections, and environmental media sampling with a focus on safety.

  • Lead and support safety operations at the site.

  • May include routine set-up, assembly, installation, and/or minor troubleshooting or simple repairs of remediation equipment as directed.

  • Inspecting groundwater remediation systems.

  • Function as onsite lead in maintaining compliance with permit conditions.

  • Learn Quality Management Systems and use the processes in the conduct of work.

  • Sampling groundwater and potentially other various mediums (soil, sediment, surface water, soil gas, air, etc.).

  • Complete rigorous and clear field documentation and participate in planning, organizing, and reporting related to field tasks.

  • Observing subcontractors (drillers, surveyors, etc.)

  • Troubleshooting equipment failures (pumps, generators, air compressors, water quality meters, photoionization detectors (PIDs), etc.) and/or elevating and communicating repair needs.

  • Interacting with our clients.

Typical office tasks include:

  • Data entry

  • Coordination/ logistics for field efforts.

  • Sample packaging and shipping.

  • Health/ safety/ compliance-oriented, desktop tasks.

  • Attendance of other in-person and Teams-based meetings as needed.

Here's what you'll need

  • 2-7 years equivalent experience is preferred; candidates with more experience may also be considered.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; formal technical training or an Associate degree is preferred.

  • Ability to follow explicit directions as described in multi-step procedures.

  • Experience with using Microsoft Office-based software.

  • Be physically fit to perform fieldwork within industrial facilities up to 90% of the time, and potentially wear a respirator (half-face, full face, or escape respirator), if required.

  • 40-hr HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain or maintain.

  • A valid driver’s license with no major infractions.

  • Be able to participate in a random drug testing program, including hair follicle samples.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, as needed, to support projects at other client sites.

  • Experience working on active construction/remediation project sites and interacting with subcontractors preferred.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with coworkers, contractors, and clients.

  • Strong attention to detail when conducting field work and evaluating data.
