Your Impact

Within our Water, Energy and Environment business our Carbon and Energy Consulting Group advises clients on the challenges and opportunities regarding climate change and sustainability issues including: carbon accounting, policy and regulatory support; net zero carbon strategic roadmaps; carbon neutrality; decentralised, decarbonised generation and energy transition; and the circular economy.

Our wider Energy and Sustainability teams comprise in excess of 1,000 staff based predominantly in the UK, but with significant global reach across our offices.

About the Opportunity

Jacobs is looking for a consultant manager with significant experience in carbon management that cuts across carbon policy, footprinting and commercial applications to realise opportunities to meet carbon targets and global net zero targets. In this role you will use your leadership qualities and experience to support our large portfolio of public and private sector clients covering a range of methods and tools noted below in the Requirements.

In the role you will be responsible for leading a project team to deliver projects and workstream tasks, providing advice, technical expertise and innovative approaches relating to climate change and sustainability. It is expected that you will also have demonstrate technical leadership, business case development, scoping commercial propositions through sales and client relationship management to support Jacobs advisory services in this critical area.

In this position we expect you to challenge ways of working and designs, and put in place existing tools, plans and strategies to drive down carbon, whilst also the opportunity to innovate on digital capabilities to support efficiencies. We require a candidate with proven experience, looking to progress their career to expert leadership working on high profile projects throughout the UK and globally.

Primary Role Responsibilities

Given the breadth of opportunities in the team for various clients, the diversity of roles will be exciting and include tasks such as:

  • Leading and delivering on the development of carbon models and GHG inventories following set reporting protocols, including working with Jacobs digital teams to support the continuation of our software modelling tools

  • Managing the delivery of carbon reporting projects, including progress reporting to clients

  • Leading client organisations to develop carbon reduction and net zero carbon strategies

  • Engaging with a range of stakeholders including at all levels (internal networks, clients, regulators etc.)

  • Maintaining knowledge of energy/carbon policy developments, carbon accounting, methodology changes, energy markets and wider energy/sustainability issues

  • Assessing performance to target (energy and carbon metrics), and analysing and communicating the cause of any variances

  • Presenting to senior managers on project outputs in an engaging and meaningful way for our clients.

  • Provide leadership on carbon business development activities, bid preparation and work winning in the above areas.

Candidates should be able to apply an in-depth appreciation of the science, policies and technologies linked to climate change, including the scientific basis underpinning international agreements on carbon reduction targets.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Technical Requirements

As Principal Consultant we expect candidates to have a broad capability and good operational experience on projects relating to carbon accounting and reporting, LCAs, SBTi and carbon reduction roadmaps. We are interested in an individual that can lead the following types of projects/workstreams:

  • Corporate carbon footprint reporting (including Scope 3 assessments) and understanding of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol plus other global carbon reporting standards.

  • Life cycle assessment (LCAs ); building and developing LCA models and conducting the comparative environmental impact of supply chain and operational decisions in accordance with ISO 14044.

  • Science-Based targets ; leading clients to formulate strategic sustainability targets for their portfolios, including Net Zero Carbon (NZC) strategies and advice on setting Science-Based Targets (SBTs).

  • Carbon management ; developing and delivering a range of carbon management plans, including PAS2080, providing clients with expert advice on energy and carbon reduction strategies along with consultation support.

  • Carbon regulation and policy ; knowledge of carbon policy including CCAs, SECR & ESOS.

  • Developing commercial models that support the business case and investment opportunities for technologies, supply chain assessments and offsetting strategies
