About the Opportunity

Our Water and Environment Business Unit provides a focus for advising our clients on River Engineering and Flood Risk Management solutions including flood defence structures, weirs, gates, sluices, flood storage reservoirs, natural flood management, habitat creation, hydrometric gauging facilities and fish passes. Our integrated Water Environment team comprises in excess of 400 staff based in the UK and Europe, but with reach into the Middle East, Australasia and America.

We are looking for an experienced Hydraulic Modeller with interest in line management to join our Water Catchment Management team in Manchester one of our UK centres of excellence for modelling. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with extensive experience in 1D and 1D-2D hydraulic modelling on projects involving river, coastal and surface water modelling.

You will be responsible for leading a team of modellers and guiding, reviewing the work of more junior staff on a range of hydraulic modelling studies.

You will support a variety of studies across flood risk management and river/reservoir engineering for major infrastructure projects in the UK and potentially overseas. The successful individual will be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of hydraulic modelling across a range of applications, technical leadership and will have the necessary skills to provide mentoring and development of staff.

You are commercially aware with a thorough understanding of the UK water and environment sector and the requirements of working in consultancy.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography or a related discipline

  • Preferably Chartered with CIWEM or ICE

  • Extensive experience in implementing 1D and 2D modelling techniques for river, urban and coastal flooding applications.

  • Excellent knowledge and practice of industry standard software (e.g. Flood Modeller, Tuflow, InfoWorks ICM, HEC-RAS).

  • An inclusive manager who works effectively as part of a diverse team with experience of staff supervision and development

  • Experience of liaising with clients and managing projects

  • Experience of resource management and staff development

  • Excellent literacy, communication, analytical and numeracy skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
