The Utilities business unit delivers design, project management and asset management consultancy services to a wide range of clients in the Water and Energy Sectors, across the UK. From feasibility studies and planning, to design, construction management and operations and maintenance, we bring together the talent and expertise necessary to deliver success, and we are proud of our extensive portfolio. Our Hydraulic Modelling business operates as a UK-Wide technical discipline. We provide technical modelling, operations and strategic support to our clients in Water and Wastewater in the UK, and our Jacobs colleagues working on international projects. The business unit interfaces closely with the Technical Innovation, Digital Solutions and Conveyancing and Storage teams. Workload is very diverse, and we have teams based in a range of locations including Belfast, Manchester, Glasgow, Winnersh, London and Croydon.

We currently have opportunities for a Wastewater Modeller with utility engineering experience to join our Utilities team, based in our Manchester or Warrington Office. The successful person will become part of a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects and international opportunities.

Working on projects throughout Ireland and the UK, your responsibilities may include:

  • Responsible for supporting the management and Project Manager to ensure the successful delivery of robustly defined technical solutions

  • Significant expertise in sewer hydraulic modelling (InfoNet and InfoWorks).

  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver projects within agreed timeframes and budgets and to exceed our clients’ expectations.

  • Work as part of a team being involved in a variety of projects including model build and verification, using existing or new models to understand system performance and using the model to help the design of system improvements and enhancements to the Wastewater Network ensuring technical excellence and best practice to specification

  • Undertake the development of modelled engineering solutions to mitigate the effects of development, to solve sewer flooding and to address unsatisfactory overflows.

  • Working knowledge of using GIS tools (MapInfo, ArcMap)

  • Assist with the preparation of cost estimates for modelling, project design and construction.

  • Supervise site surveys and field investigations.

  • Plan, programme, co-ordinate and write reports for specific projects.

  • Driving health and safety in all aspects of our projects.

  • Communicating and liaising effectively with colleagues, contracting engineers, subcontractors, sub-consultants and clients.

  • Providing guidance and support to graduate engineers or technicians.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Minimum of an Honours Civil Engineering Degree (NFQ Level 8), or similar relevant Degree.

  • Proven ability in the utilities (wastewater) engineering industry.

  • Proven ability within the water industry with a focus on wastewater network solutions

  • Demonstrable knowledge of wastewater software such as InfoNet, and InfoWorks CS / ICM, including verification, survey supervision and optioneering/design of solutions (e.g. DG5 solutions).

  • Proven ability to work as part of a team, liaising directly with client and other project team members.

  • Strong analytical and report writing skills

  • Familiar with current industry best practice and able to actively contribute to innovation in this field of expertise

  • Able to integrate well into a team and provide technical guidance to other modelling staff

  • Good organisational skills and be able to multi-task

  • Able to integrate well into a team as well as work independently

  • Proven level of decision making and ability to prioritise and manage conflicting demands

  • Strong communication skills all levels with the client, suppliers, contractors and design team - both written and oral

  • Excellent organisational skills and able to multi-task

  • Must be able to plan and prioritise work load effectively

  • Excellent client service focus

  • Flexible approach to work

Desirable:

  • Chartered or working towards Chartered status

  • Proven ability in the outline design of wastewater schemes; sewage pumping systems and treatment facilities.

  • Working knowledge of contract types and procurement options.

  • Ensuring project financial and schedule performance.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of supporting tendering procedures and putting together proposals.

Other:

  • Flexibility in terms of travel (Ireland, UK and international).

  • Client meetings and site visits as required.
