At Jacobs, we don’t just lead the development and implementation of environmental characterization and remediation, we live it. As an Environmental Technician, you’ll primarily work in the field supporting preliminary assessments, site characterization, and remediation projects.
As a field Environmental Technician, you will support a variety of field and technical project tasks, primarily at Jacobs’ project site at Joint Base Cape Cod (JBCC). These tasks will include a mix of field work (90%) and office work (10%). Typical field work tasks include sampling various media (groundwater, soil, sediment, surface water, soil gas, air, cranberry fruit, etc.), supporting the operation of a direct push drilling rig, obtaining water level measurements, completing field paperwork and documenting activities on site, and observing subcontractors (drillers, surveyors, etc.). Typical office tasks include data entry, coordination/logistics for field efforts, sample packaging and shipping, and safety and compliance-oriented tasks. We’ll rely on you to complete tasks within schedule and budget with a variety of teams from different disciplines and backgrounds and communicate the status of tasks to project managers. If something is unclear, we know you’ll ask questions to clarify the scope. Safety will be your priority, as you lead and support safety “incident free” operations in the office and in the field. This position will require full-time on-site support at JBCC over a period of twenty months. If you’re up for the challenge, we’ve been looking for someone just like you. Here’s What You’ll Need:
Associates Degree or 2 years of formal technical training, or 5 years equivalent experience
Experience with using Microsoft Office-based software
40-hr HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain or maintain
Must be able to perform field work
A valid driver’s license with no major infractions
Ability to work in the field 90% of the time
Ideally, You’ll Also Have:
Currently located in the Cape Cod, Massachusetts area
Experience with various environmental media (soil, groundwater, soil gas, and surface water) investigations; contaminant fate and transport assessments
Experience with design, installation, operation, and/or maintenance of remediation technologies.
Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs
The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoors, outdoors, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous exposures.
