About the opportunity

Jacobs is currently delivering a number of large scale power infrastructure projects and has a strong pipeline of exciting opportunities. To further strengthen Jacobs’ capability, Jacobs is seeking a Design Manager (Transmission & Distribution). The successful candidate will be offered a full time permanent role in Melbourne CBD location.

This role will see the successful candidate facilitate the technical delivery of Rail/ Heavy Industrial and HV Substations, and Overhead Line Projects to meet objectives and requirements of our East Coast Business.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Checking for technical gaps, overlaps, integration or other technical interface issues between the Client Requirements and the design produced by Jacobs Internal Teams/ Contractors/ Joint Venture Teams;

  • Raise any technical interface issues and provide technical support in managing the close out of identified items;

  • Lead and provide technical input to assist the Project Manager to define information requirements and timings required between Project Teams and the Other Contractors;

  • Defining Project geometry, Project set out and Project space proofing for all the design elements and communicating with Others to achieve consistency across the Project;

  • Overall management of the design team, the allocation of scope to the design team;

About you

  • Hands-on practical experience in design management including primary engineering, secondary design and civil/structural design. Good understanding of tasks including reading layouts, elevations, equipment lists, SLDs, clearance checks and busbar mechanical design. Specifically;

  • Good working knowledge of AS2067 and be able to carry out limited design tasks independently and be able to oversee a design management process in large teams for substation projects

  • Experience managing engineering staff carrying out fault rating analysis on rigid and flexible bus systems as per IEC60865

  • Experience design managing other disciplines such as Civil/ Structural and Environmental Engineers to design substations – for example design manage the preparation of layout of the primary plant by leading the electrical input on transformer bunds and switchyard primary plant

  • Facilitate the production of other documentation to facilitate construction: Bill of Materials, Installation Procedures, Technical Specifications, Cable Termination Schedules

  • Ensure project work complies with the project scope of works, statutory/regulatory requirements and client standards

  • Support field work of clients and their contractors during commissioning (mainly from office, but occasional site work will be required).

  • Direct liaison with client personnel in respect of technical issues

  • Checking/review of drawings and documents produced by others

  • Good understanding in substations protection and control design work including preparing protection schedules, panel layouts, AC & DC Schematics, Logic Diagrams, mapping tables and protection settings.
