About the opportunity

With a wealth of projects in the pipeline we are seeking to recruit experienced Senior Transmission Lines Engineers to join our talented and rapidly expanding energy team across the Asia Pacific Region. It is expected the successful candidate will have eligibility to work in the specific regions below with a Full Driving License.

The Role

Jacobs is engaged in a high volume of overhead design work involving new build and refurbishment. The role will require you to work on overhead transmission line design activities for Jacobs’ wide range of clients across Asia Pacific geographies and globally. In addition, you will provide support for feasibility studies and project management of assigned lines projects.

As a Senior Engineer, the role will entail attending site visits within Asia Pacific and conducting client meetings as required. You will support the Team Leader in your relevant location to complete resource planning and work allocation for team members, potentially across multiple offices throughout the World.

Providing construction guidance is key to the successful delivery of the design tasks associated with this role. You will consider safety in design and be able to champion the Safety In Design workshops. You will carry out site inspections, observations, measurements, etc., and prepare assessment reports as required.

Your focus on producing value engineering inputs to the design process will be a key part of your role to support the Jacobs Value model by providing opportunities to innovate and maximise efficiencies in design to ultimately save money and time for our clients.

The role will include:

  • Carrying out route selection, with input/ support from Environmental and Planning Teams in Jacobs;

  • Use of PLS CADD;

  • Producing line profile drawings;

  • Creep and sag/tension calculations;

  • Determining clearance requirements;

  • Conductor & insulator selection; and

  • Earthing design.

In addition, it will be expected that you have experience in:

  • Preparing preliminary designs and documentation for transmission line works on expected and agreed time and within nominated budget;

  • Assist discipline leads in supporting the checks and reviews in design documentation and project implementation schedules/procedures; and

  • Be able to independently produce quality deliverables in transmission and distribution designs and underground cable designs using appropriate software which are reviewed and closed out by Senior Engineers with no more than 1 review cycle.

About you

  • Experience in a similar role working with major transmission lines projects, coupled with an appropriate tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering

  • Are client focused and a team player

  • Thrive in solving challenging problems in a team environment

  • Demonstrated capabilities in high pressure project environments

  • Strong attention to detail and strive for excellence

  • Consulting skills and preferably experience in management of engineering design projects

  • Sound ability to analyse data to solve problems, excellent written and presentation skills
