Perform the role of Facility/Maintenance Engineer. Apply engineering knowledge and skills to solve wind tunnel facility problems with systems and equipment. Understanding of rotating equipment and process flows oil, water, gas, and air systems. Lead projects, manage budgets and schedules to improve facilities systems performance and refurbishments. Ability to write Statement of Work and Safety Plans. Support procurements processes to manage service support sub-contractors. Provide direction to Mechanics, Electricians, and other staff disciplines to support projects and maintenance efforts. Understanding of maintenance best practices and asset management including tribology, vibration, thermography, ultrasonic, and other PT&I techniques a plus. Able to work with customer engineers to solve complex system problems. Understanding of ASME piping and pressure vessel codes and standards. CAD awareness and capability to support and execute final documentation of projects and facility refurbishments completed. Works independently and as part of multiple discipline teams. The ideal candidate will have strong personnel interaction skills, strong written and oral communications skills, and be confident leading small to large multi-disciplined facility projects. An emphasis on continual development of technical excellence is expected.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
Unusual or Special Physical Requirements of Position:
Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. Ability to install, operate, troubleshoot and repair facility equipment and instrumentation, hardware systems or direct others to do same. Occasional working at heights and wearing fall protection equipment, entering confined spaces, and ability to move in and around machinery.
Description of Work Environment:
Work in an office setting and industrial field environment around compressors, wind tunnels, cooling water systems, machine shops, and lubrication systems. Field work can be a combination of outside and inside depending on the task. May work close proximity to high and low temperatures, rotating equipment, oil, greases, solvents, and high noise areas.
Equipment and Machines Involved in Work Tasks:
Ability to operate personal computer systems, telephones, and other general office equipment. Ability to operate maintenance and inspection equipment. Standard electrical and mechanical systems equipment and complex instrumentation systems.
Criticality of Attendance:
Standard work week of 40 hours, 8 hours per day, M - F, nominally 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. Occasional overtime through early start or late departure from day shift work may be required. Weekend work may be required from time to time as well as off shift work.
Other Essential Functions:
Must have the ability to obtain a security clearance if required by the client. Must be able to accurately communicate ideas verbally and in writing. Must be able to obtain a NASA badge and maintain access to the workplace facility. Adhere to appropriate safety, quality, and environmental practice, as well as business ethics practices. Perform other duties as required.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited engineering program is required. One (1) to three (3) years related engineering experience, or MS degree from an accredited engineering school. Position may be filled at a higher level depending on the applicant’s qualifications.
