Daily responsibilities include aligning projects with business objectives, constructing detailed work plans, managing teams, achieving milestones, and communicating the results to stakeholders. The Project Manager is accountable for planning and allocating resources, preparing budgets, monitoring progress, and keeping stakeholders informed throughout the project lifecycle. All of this takes place within the framework of achieving a company's goals and achieving their vision. The Project Manager roles and responsibilities may differ from one project to another.

Primary responsibilities include the following: Ensuring all projects are delivered on time within the stipulated scope and budget. Leading the initiation and planning of a project and ensuring technical feasibility. Ensuring resource availability and allocation. Developing a detailed plan to monitor and track the progress of the projects. Coordinating with internal and external parties for the flawless execution of projects. Managing relationships between clients and stakeholders. Measuring project performance using appropriate project management tools. Performing risk management analysis to reduce project risks. Reporting and escalating to upper management as and when needed. Creating and maintaining comprehensive project documentation.

The Project Manager should be familiar with NASA specific requirements and processes, including but not limited to: Ames Permit Board, Ames Chief Engineer’s Office (ACE), APR 1720.3, Ames Health and Safety Manual, Ames Visitor Requests, Site Specific Safety Plans for subcontractors, and NASA and Jacobs safety requirements.

Additionally, the Project Manager should be able to assist with the development of Building Information Models (BIM) for NASA facilities, become familiar with layouts and floorplans of the various facility buildings, and assist NASA and Jacobs personnel with technical issues on smaller projects that do not require full-time Project Management support. The successful candidate should be able to provide on-site supervision for outside subcontractors and be able to update Jacobs and NASA management on project status. The successful candidate should also be able to mentor less experienced Project Managers or Engineers in the areas mentioned above.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

Unusual or Special Physical Requirements of Position

Visual and physical contact of test system hardware and installed test articles. Multiple workstation assignments (office, test facility, control room, laboratory, shops, etc.). Transportation of notebooks, drawings, forms, etc. required. Ability to hear normal conversation. One eye (minimum) correctable to 20/20. Ability to distinguish eight colors on basic panel displays.

Description of Work Environment

Work is accomplished in an office, control room, and in and around test facility buildings. Must be able to use respiratory protection in confined spaces. Some work areas are high in noise.

Equipment and Machines Involved in Work Tasks

Office and control room equipment includes computers, calculators, electronic instruments, mechanical instruments, and miscellaneous precision measuring devices.

Criticality of Attendance

Work assignments are usually during normal work hours, but overtime is frequently necessary to support meetings, test schedules, and test operations. Testing may occur any day or time of day, depending on the schedule and test requirements. Regular daily attendance is required to maintain team effectiveness.

Other Essential Functions

Provides technical supervision to assigned project personnel and assists management on administrative matters. Must be able to obtain NASA badge and gain access to the work facilities. Must be able to obtain security clearance if required by customer.

The base salary range for this position is 145,000-165,000-185,000. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Here’s what you’ll need :

The Project Manager typically possesses a Bachelor’s or higher degree in IT, Computer Science, Business Management, Engineering, or a related field with 5 or more years of related experience.

California certification as a Professional Engineer in the field of Mechanical Engineering is desired. Certification and additional years of related experience may count as educational equivalency and vice versa. Good communication and interpersonal skills are highly desirable as the Project Manager will interface with NASA and Jacobs management, NASA Civil Servants, other Project Managers and Engineers. General knowledge and understanding of aerospace testing and facility operations is desired. It is also desirable to have direct working knowledge of the following types of equipment:

  • PC computer operations (MS Windows [XP, 7] and Macintosh OSX, MS Office)

  • High-voltage AC/DC rectification and power supply systems
