This role has two positions. Based out of Montreal or your remote office in Ontario, you’ll have the opportunity to work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams to contribute directly to all phases of government and privately-owned infrastructure projects. Responsibilities of the Role:
Collaborate with project managers to define the scope of cultural heritage and archaeological assessments, identifying key heritage features and potential impacts.
Undertake desktop studies to define the scope and methodology of archaeological field studies, based on requirements set out in the Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines.
Support the GIS team and E&S Data Manager in defining cultural heritage data architecture.
Undertake impact analysis based on data from field studies, Indigenous knowledge, and stakeholder engagement.
Provide input into project infrastructure development and design, as part of a multi-criteria assessment process and other design review and assurance processes.
Support the wider Design Team in recommending suitable mitigation and compensation measures to minimize significant impacts to cultural heritage sites or artifacts.
Support the Impact Assessment Manager and others with meaningful engagement with key cultural heritage stakeholders, including IAAC, other federal and provincial agencies, Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and other local heritage groups.
Prepare cultural heritage sections of the Impact Statement.
Assist the Permits, Licenses, and Approvals (PLA) team to identify and obtain necessary PLAs required to undertake site investigation, early or advanced works, or construction works.
Prepare guidance and provide assurance during construction to ensure compliance with cultural heritage mitigation measures, conditions of the Decision Statement, and any conditions defined in PLAs.
Oversee any required long-term monitoring during and post-construction to assess the preservation of impacted heritage sites and the success of mitigation and compensation measures.
Experience writing built heritage and cultural heritage landscapes assessment and evaluation reports and previous archives and research experience
Minimum five years of applicable experience
A Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
Membership with the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP) an asset
For Ontario position: Familiarity with relevant legislation and policy frameworks such as the Ontario Heritage Act, the Planning Act, the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, the Provincial Policy Statement, and the Ontario Heritage Bridge Guidelines
For Quebec position: Familiarity with relevant legislation and policy frameworks in Quebec
Strong technical writing skills and experience completing desktop assessments to determine permitting requirements and completing all aspects of archaeological and/or heritage (historical) resource impact assessments
Willingness to support other environmental disciplines as needed
proficient in Microsoft suite of tools and GIS mapping systems
Knowledge of Ontario or Quebec historical period and/or Indigenous material culture, as relevant for the position
Bi-lingual is an asset for Ontario position; fluency in French is required for Quebec position
An interest or experience in Project Management is an asset
Driver’s Licence and clean Driver’s abstract
Experience in a variety of project delivery models considered an asset
