Jacobs Lead Building Electrical Engineer - Advanced Facilities (Hybrid) in Montreal, Canada

As an Electrical Engineer in our Advanced Manufacturing group, you’ll contribute to projects that enable the heart of our clients’ successful manufacturing operations. In this role, you will have the chance to work on projects including engineering and design of electric vehicle manufacturing facilities, photovoltaic manufacturing facilities, data centers, and other state of the art manufacturing facilities. You’ll provide design work, provide team technical leadership, perform quality reviews of design packages, and assist directly with other portions of the design process. You’ll also interact directly with the client, owner, and contractors to assist construction on site. You and the other members of your electrical design team will work closely with the broader multi-discipline team in a fast paced, dynamic, collaborative environment to establish design requirements and produce construction documents.
Your responsibilities will include engineering and design for facility power distribution systems, UPS, emergency systems, grounding, lighting, and low voltage communications systems in complex industrial facilities. Design may also include retrofit of existing building systems to accommodate our clients’ continually evolving requirements. Additional responsibilities may include the management of quality, scope, budget and schedule. You will work in a multi-discipline, highly interactive team to successfully deliver on the design, development, application, evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered systems and products for building Electrical Systems.
• You will perform all aspects of electrical engineering and design and independently apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis within the discipline including:
• Develop designs that require innovation and ingenuity, be expected to perform work with little to no supervision, review work of discipline team for adequacy on completion and provide technical guidance to drafters/designers and engineers.
• Coordinate with local and remote electrical design teams and other disciplines throughout the design, construction, and commissioning process.
• Ensure the expectations of the project deliverables are met for your discipline, ensuring the quality expectations, schedules and budgets
• Assist in project proposals by ascertaining scope, determining the required design budgets and when necessary, serve as an expert during proposal presentations
• Work with others as required to incorporate code and safety requirements into designs
• Design of various electrical building services systems within advanced facilities, e.g. power distribution, small power, data, containment, lighting, fire detection and alarms, intruder detection etc.
• Engage with junior staff to provide on the job training and mentoring.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. This includes verbal and written communication as well as visual presentation.
• Use, modify, and develop digital tools to undertake engineering design, and to improve on existing design, troubleshooting and validation methods.
• Understand and implement best practice in all aspects of design.
• Identify client needs and exceed expectations to capture repeat work.
• Undertake site-based inspections and surveys at client sites, including undergoing any necessary client specific training.
• Strive to meet stringent deadlines, maintaining desired quality levels of output.
• Understand and implement Jacobs Environmental, Health and Safety, and Commercial policies and standards.
Jacobs offers a hybrid working environment where you will have the opportunity to work mainly from home (unless you prefer coming into the office), with the expectation to travel for client /site meetings and occasional team meetings. This position is in Montreal, QC and requires the candidate to be embedded along with other Jacobs’ team members within the client offices.
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensing within the Quebec province is mandatory with at least 10 years of relevant and progressively responsible experience.
Must be Member in Good Standing of the Order of Engineers of Quebec (l’ordre des ingénieurs du Québec)
Extensive facility and/ or Industrial design experience including electric vehicle/battery, pharmaceutical/consumer/chemical manufacturing, semiconductor facilities, data center, or similar
Relevant engineering/design experience in industrial/advanced technology sector.
Engineering/ design experience with Low Voltage and Medium Voltage Electrical systems
Ability to interact with other engineering disciplines, clients, and vendors at all levels.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Navisworks, Bluebeam or similar specification development software
Experience working on projects through alternative finance and procurement models such as Design-Build or Design-Build-Finance would be an asset.
Ideally, you'll also have:
Fluency in English and French
High level familiarity/experience with Electric Vehicle/Battery manufacturing facilities.
