The current Jacobs Framework supports the Client in the following Discipline Areas:

The client owns and operates 8 nuclear, 2 coal and 1 gas-fired power stations, plus gas storage facilities, renewable assets and two administration offices. The coming together of the coal, gas and renewable assets with nuclear stations makes it the largest electricity supplier by volume and the biggest generator of low carbon electricity in Britain, providing 25% of the UK’s total electricity.

The candidate should have good leadership qualities, be highly motivated, well organised and capable of working within a closely knit team. They need to be able to respond well to the demands of working in the environment of a nuclear power plant.

Essential traits: being able to communicate, build relationships, be proactive and be part of a team.

The Project Manager position is required to support works undertaken across a range of projects being delivered by our client’s Investment Delivery portfolio at Heysham 2 nuclear power station.

The station has a diverse projects portfolio covering mechanical, civil, electrical and C&I works.

The projects encompass the full spectrum of the Investment Delivery Process from Concept, through Design, to Implementation and Commissioning.

Project(s) in Scope:

  • SEISMIC Qualification of SSD & TSD & Increased storage capacity

  • CCR C&I Upgrades, Chillers and Calorifiers changing to electric heaters, 12.5m Chiller Control Panel Dead Band Repair

  • Essential Plant Protection Equipment (EPPE) Obsolescence/Stabilisation

  • CO2 In-Water Analyser Replacement (ABB)

  • HV Protection Scheme

  • PLANTE Battery Systems Replacement

  • 110V Essential Uninterruptible Power Supplies and 240V CCR Lighting Inverter replacement

  • Replacement of ageing DC Battery Chargers

  • 11kV, 3.3kV switchgear obsolescence

  • 3.3kV Switchgear Protection

  • 11kV Switchgear Protection Replacement

  • Central Alarm System (CAS)- PARTIAL REPLACEMENT

  • Reactor Safety Circuits- REPLACEMENT ALARMS FOR "FIRST UP"

  • Emergency Indication Centre (EIC) Post Trip Indication Panels

  • Fire Detection System Refurbishment

Project Value(s): The individual project values are ranging from £1k – 8k with a spend profile shown over a 5 year period with multiple projects running at the same time.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Directing & leading all the activities & personnel associated with the full lifecycle of the project within the programme

  • Successful project delivery from concept design to handover & closure stages in accordance with safety, cost, scope, quality & time in line with the overall project schedule, meeting all business & technical requirements

  • Develop & implement the project execution plan for the delivery of the project

  • Define the work scope to be delivered & the interfaces to the other elements of the programme

  • Track progress against milestones, deadlines, budget & provide key stakeholders with reports on these matters

  • Identify risks & facilitate the resolution of all risks raised

  • Anticipate, manage & resolve issues

  • Change management

  • Fulfil all the contract contractual requirements & deliverables

  • Establish & maintain effective working relationships with all project team members, stakeholders & advisory services

  • Liaising with the Project Sponsor to ensure the business benefit is being delivered

Reports to: Projects Portfolio Manager (PPM)

Note3: Expected to attend site during normal working hours Monday to Friday – 40hrs per week

  • Degree educated ideally in engineering, or equivalent qualification in an appropriate discipline with relative work experience

  • Nuclear experience, working within a regulated, licenced environment

  • Strong project delivery experience

  • Demonstrable experience of managing projects throughout the full project lifecycle, ideally across a range of complex multi-discipline projects

  • Familiar with current HSE and CDM legislation

  • Management of an integrated project team including staff, agency and assigned functional support

  • Evidence of working within environments with a high Quality & HSE standards/culture

  • Excellent communications skills & interpersonal skills, including questioning for clarification and establishing of facts, observation and active listening

  • Ability to cope well under pressure & work within tight timeframes

  • Clear decision making ability with the acumen to judge complex situations & assess when to escalate issues

  • Self-motivated, able to work on own initiative and as part of a team

  • Proficient in MS Office & knowledge of industry planning tools

  • Knowledge of estimating, scheduling, programming & risk tools

  • Knowledge of Earned Value tools


  • PMQ (APMP Level D) or equivalent PM qualification

  • Experience of working on EDF sites and/or knowledge of equivalent environments/processes

  • Understanding the needs of Quality & how it is assured & controlled

Security Clearance

  • BPSS level security clearance required
