Jacobs Environmental Field Technician- New Jersey in Morristown, New Jersey

At Jacobs, we don’t just lead the development and implementation of environmental characterization and remediation, we live it. As an Environmental Technician, you’ll primarily work in the field supporting preliminary assessments, site characterization, and remediation projects.

Based in Morristown, New Jersey, you’ll be involved in field work supporting commercial and federal clients. Local travel up to 60% and up to 30% non-local travel will be required. Working closely with a multi-disciplinary project team, you’ll provide support including collection of environmental samples, site inspections, data management, and routine groundwater well pumping/treatment operations, monitoring and maintenance (OMM) system support. Additionally, as part of field teams, you’ll have the ability to characterize soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, treated discharge, collect air samples and perform routine sampling and testing in either a lead or support role. You’ll also oversee specialty subcontractors performing maintenance, investigation, drilling, survey and remediation work.

You’ll contribute to the development of CERCLA-type and other regulatory reporting technical documents (field logs, health and safety documentation, work plans, and environmental investigation, monitoring and remediation reports, etc.). We’ll rely on you to complete tasks within schedule and budget with a variety of teams from different disciplines and backgrounds and communicate the status of tasks to project managers. If something is unclear, we know you’ll ask questions to clarify the scope. Safety will be your priority, as you lead and support safety "incident free" operations in the office and in the field.

Here's What You'll Need:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Experience with using Microsoft Office-based software

  • Professional environmental technician experience 

  • Valid driver’s license with no major infractions.

  • An understanding of the implications of environmental regulations.

  • Knowledge of environmental compliance and client interactions/relationships.

  • Basic knowledge of federal and state/provincial environmental regulations.

  • Ability to perform field work and travel 90% of the time.

  • Ability to obtain/maintain 40-hr HAZWOPER certification.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

  • Currently located in the Northern New Jersey Area

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Technical and mechanical capabilities.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to handle changes in the field and respond appropriately to internal, client, and regulatory driven requests.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal team members.

The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, vegetated areas, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
