Jacobs Environmental Field Technician - New Orleans in New Orleans, Louisiana
Jacobs is currently seeking an Environmental Field Technician to join our New Orleans, Louisiana Field office. The responsibilities will consist of a wide variety of field tasks and some administrative office tasks related to compliance, reporting, and maintenance of active recovery systems. Field tasks include compliance sample collection, equipment calibration, routine system data collection, remediation system maintenance and repair, occasional subcontractor oversight, grounds maintenance (weed eating). Office tasks include participating in weekly meetings, tabulation/filing of field data, assistance with compliance-related tasks, and tracking data from active recovery system(s).
Responsibilities:
Lead and support safety operations at the site including acting as owner of standard operating procedures
Be a health and safety champion
Oversee or perform field work tasks under minimal to no supervision such as subcontractor oversight, groundwater sampling, equipment inspections, and compliance inspections
Be mechanically-inclined: May include routine set-up, assembly, installation, and/or minor troubleshooting or simple repairs of remediation equipment, as directed
Participate in routine conference calls:
Contribute ideas/ insights using site and system specific knowledge
Assist with scheduling and coordination for field maintenance and routine sampling activities
Provide clear field documentation utilizing inspection sheets, self-assessments, quarterly reports, etc.
Electronic data collection: Input field data into tablets (i.e. iPad) in the field
Work schedule: Monday through Friday (40-hours)/ Work begins by 8am each day + Every third weekend (half days Friday-Sunday).
2-5 years equivalent experience
Experience working within chemical/ industrial facilities
Ability to work and communicate within a team structure is critical; must have strong communication skills
Computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office suite of products
40-hr HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain
Be physically fit to perform fieldwork within industrial facilities up to 90% of the time, and wear a half-face, full-face, and/or supplied-air respirator, when required
A valid driver’s license with no major infractions
Be able to participate in a random drug testing program, including hair follicle samples
TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) or ability to obtain and maintain
Ideally, You’ll Also Have:
Associate degree or 2 years of formal technical training.
Current residence in the New Orleans area or willingness to relocate (relocation assistance is not offered for this position)
Experience with sampling groundwater and exposure to or willingness to train on sampling other environmental medium (soil, waste, soil gas, air, and surface water)
Experience with installation, operation, and/or maintenance of remediation technologies, or at a minimum, willingness to learn
Subcontractor oversight experience.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50-pounds
Ability to communicate effectively; verbally, in writing, and work collaboratively with internal team members and client/facility stakeholders
Ability to follow written procedures with several steps
The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance, and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoors, outdoors, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous exposures.
