Jacobs Civil Engineering Professional Intermediate in New York, New York

Deputy traffic engineering group lead that directs and delegates engineering tasks to other team members. Participates in the design and preparation of engineering plans for highways, traffic control devices (including signing, pavement markings, and traffic signals for permanent and temporary conditions), construction staging, temporary detours, at transportation facilities such as train stations and marine ports, all according to applicable manuals, local regulations, client requirements, and industry standards. Designs traffic data collection plans, and coordinates with and oversees sub-consultants for execution of traffic data collection tasks for vehicular, bike and pedestrian traffic. Designs workflows for automating the analysis of traffic engineering data with programming tools (e.g. Python, SQL, VBA, etc.) for use in traffic analysis and modelling. Participates in, delegates, and oversees the preparation of traffic models and simulations (e.g. Synchro and VISSIM). Produces conclusions and recommendations for methods to improve traffic flow and safety. Leads transportation studies, analyzes large transportation data sets, and uses knowledge of transportation networks, to analyze the impact of a proposed project to existing transportation systems and infrastructure, and issues policy, design, or operations recommendations. Uses big-data analytics tools and platforms (e.g. Streetlight Data) to produce transportation demand metrics. Develops maps and illustrations with transportation patterns and information using GIS tools. Directs field visits to conduct surveys, inspections, and gather observations of traffic conditions at roadway construction sites and projects. Prepares and checks plans, specifications, design calculations, engineer’s cost estimations and recommendations prepared by other engineers for completeness, mathematical accuracy, and conformity to engineering practices and standards. Checks engineering drawings for completeness and correctness, marks up changes that need to be made, delegates updates to other team members, and verifies other team members’ work.

Telecommuting is allowed.

TRAVEL: Up to 10-15% domestic travel for field/site visits.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field and 2 years of work experience in job offered or related occupation.

SPECIFIC SKILLS: Expertise/ knowledge of: Traffic modelling tools (e.g. Synchro, Vissim). Programming languages (e.g. Python, SQL). Computer Aided Design (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, AutoTURN, GuideSIGN). Building Information Modelling / 3D Modelling (e.g. Revit, OpenRoads). Advanced MS Excel (Macros, VBA, Pivot Table). GIS Tools (ESRI ArcGIS Pro). Knowledge of transportation engineering standards/manuals (MUTCD, NYSDOT HDM, AASHTO GB, NYCDOT Street Design Manual, PANYNJ traffic engineering Design guidelines. Relevant agencies’ (NYSDOT, NYCDOT, PANYNJ) process for production and submittal of contract plans, specifications and estimates packages. Engineering report writing. Ability to give project and technical presentations internally and to clients.

Must have Engineer in Training (EIT) /Pass FE Civil Exam.
