Your Impact:
The Junior Communications Engineer will play an active role in the development of plans, specifications and estimates for intelligent transportation systems, highway lighting, traffic signal design, and communications systems supporting transportation assets (CCTV systems, Dynamic Message Signs, Travel Time systems, Fiber Optic networks Communications/Server rooms, SCADA systems, Tolling Systems, Reversible Lanes, etc.), construction inspection, field data collection, and report writing.

Based in New York City, you will have the chance to work on exciting and engaging large-scale infrastructure projects and utilize your Communications design expertise. The base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $110,000. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering.
• Substantial professional years experiences related to data and video networking systems, low voltage communication systems and wireless radio systems.
• Strong Knowledge of Telecommunications Systems including Local Area and Wide Area Networks
• An understanding of Fiber Optics and data transmission over Fiber Optic Networks
• An understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP and the OSI 7 Layer Model
• An understanding of IPv4, IP Addressing and Subnetting
• An understanding of Spanning Tree Protocols
• An understanding of Routing, Switching, VLAN and Self-Healing Ring Network Architecture
• Some knowledge of Ethernet over SONET and MPLS
• Knowledge of Closed Circuit Television Systems
• Some knowledge of Video Networking Systems, including Video Wall and Audio Visual Systems design
• Some knowledge of Traffic Management Systems and utilization of CCTV, DMS, Tag Readers and Radar Detectors
• Some knowledge of Wireless Communications including Private IP (PIP), 4G-LTE Machine-to-Machine Communications and 2.4GHz/5GHz ISM Band Radio Systems.
• Hands on field experience troubleshooting communications system is a plus Cisco CCNA Certification is a plus
• Some knowledge of Security Access Control (Card Access Systems)
• Valid driver’s license
Ideally, you will also have:
• Strong communications skills
• Strong time management and attention to detail
• Engineer in Training (EIT/FE) preferred
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills Knowledge of National Electrical Code is a plus
• Experience with AGI32 lighting design software is a plus
• Knowledge of traffic signals and signal systems is a plus
• Knowledge of and experience using CADD/Design software preferred
Other Essential Functions: May be required to get involved with designing Analog and IP Telephone Systems, Security Access Control systems, Public Address Systems and Wireless Radio Systems. Prepare design packages to include but not limited to, construction contract drawings, system block diagrams, one-line diagrams, plan drawings, installation details and technical specifications. Some work-related travel will be required. Candidate must be interested in helping to develop ITS solutions, complete street networks, and project reports. Candidate should be eager to learn, willing to take on new tasks, interact with clients, and grow professionally with Jacobs.
