About the Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Civil Engineer with interest in line management to join our new Water Catchment Management team in Newcastle. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with extensive experience in the development and design of flood risk management and river engineering solutions to be involved at the start of a new team.

You will join our Water Catchment Management team and will play an important role in supporting our diverse client base through leading delivery of outline, planning, tender and detailed design projects and in mentoring and developing more junior staff.

Your role will be to lead the technical delivery of projects for clients including the Environment Agency, Local Flood Authorities and other public and private clients including Water and Sewerage Companies, Highways England, Network Rail, HS2 and Major Airports. This will include tasks such as:

  • Design team leadership including coordinating outline, planning, tender and detailed design of flood risk management and river engineering solutions

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and support sales opportunities across wider business

  • Design of: Earthwork embankments and conveyance channels; Reinforced concrete structures and foundations; Steelwork structures including piling; Flow control structures; Flood gates and demountable defences; Surface water drainage; Natural Flood Management solutions

  • Production of Contracts and Technical specifications

  • Contributing to an engaged and supportive team environment with active involvement in supervising, mentoring and supporting staff

  • Checking and reviewing calculations and technical deliverables

  • Designers Health & Safety and Public Safety Risk Assessments

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Interest in or experience of staff management and development.

  • BEng / MEng Civil Engineering.

  • Chartered with ICE or CIWEM.

  • Experience in the development of outline and detailed design solutions for flood risk management schemes.

  • Experience of Safety in Design and Designers responsibilities under CDM.

  • Experience of coordinating and leading multi-disciplinary teams in the development of design solutions.
