Jacobs Nuclear Projects and Consulting is a Tier 1 service provider to the U.S. Department of Energy, we deliver safe and innovative solutions at complex nuclear cleanup and production sites. Our services include program management, decommissioning, environmental remediation, waste and nuclear material management, nuclear operations, consulting, and engineering and construction. We are currently executing many contracts, performing work that is essential to our clients' missions across a broad range of functional areas. We are looking for a Field Engineer for our Oak Ridge, TN location, As a responsible engineer you will have the chance to focus on projects while being responsible for with daily reporting, subcontractor oversight, verification of site activities and working with the onsite management team to assure the safe operation of daily construction activities. The field engineer’s daily activities will also include report writing, work plan preparation, assisting the Deputy Project Manager with cost tracking, assisting the onsite Quality Control Manager with review of previous day’s activities and working with subcontractors to prepare daily figures documenting site work.
This position is client facing with an emphasis on ensuring quality, schedule, and cost. You will participate in planning, field oversight, inspections, scheduling, general design, design change disposition and procurement tasks as assigned.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
2 or more years of relevant engineering experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
An understanding of engineering and construction practices, and the ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical submittals for compliance
Working knowledge of computer software systems for processing Submittals, includes AutoCAD, GIS, Microsoft office suite and Databases
Ability to perform and assist with site layout and grading using GPS and survey equipment
Ability to inspect installed commodities against design engineering specifications and drawings to ensure compliance
Ability to maintain continuous communication with the Contract Manager, Project Controls Manager, Senior Engineer(s), and Client personnel.
Must be able to walk long distances over potential rough terrain in all types of typical weather conditions. Exposure to weather elements while in the field is expected.
The ability to climb stairs and ladders to inspect work
USA citizenship is required (No dual citizenship)
In addition to the requirements above the ideal candidate may have these preferred skills:
- Candidates local to Oak Ridge, TN is preferred
Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carry of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
