Our team is experiencing exciting growth within our established practice and we have a need for a new Construction Inspector to join our team. This person will inspect work such as grading HMA and PCC paving, traffic control, striping and signs, utility relocations, bridges, retaining walls, overhead sign structures, drainage, storm water compliance, etc.

To ensure success in this role, you will apply your knowledge of engineering fundamentals and safety regulations to ensure the project is being constructed in full compliance with contract documents. You will have the ability to work independently and perform duties in the construction field office. To effectively make decisions concerning work in progress and solving field and office problems. The Construction Inspector will assume the following functional responsibilities:

Typical Duties:

  • Observe and inspect ongoing construction work on site.

  • Inspect traffic control systems for compliance.

  • Review work to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications.

  • Complete pay quantity sheets for actual work completed and assist with monthly pay estimates.

  • Assist with preparation, analysis and review of contract change orders (CCO).

  • Assist with the review of Critical Path Method (CPM) Schedule analysis.

  • Assist with Water Pollution Control Program (Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan) enforcement.

  • Maintain a detailed daily report of construction activities of work in progress and status of completion and discusses construction related problems with the supervisor.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil engineering

  • 4 years of experience in roadway and structure construction inspection including but not limited to the following:

  • Roadway excavation and grading

  • Hot Mix Asphalt and Portland Cement Concrete Surfacing

  • Drainage Systems

  • ADA facilities

  • Signs and Pavement Delineation

  • Traffic Signal Systems

  • Bridges

  • Retaining Walls

  • Barriers

  • Guard rail

  • Required to have a valid state driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required.

  • Ability to walk construction site, including walking up and down slopes.

  • Ability to read and interpret roadway, structure, and bridge plans and specifications.

  • Strong understanding of Caltrans Standard Specifications and Standard Plans

  • Strong understanding of Caltrans Construction Manual

  • Experience with Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction – “Greenbook”

Typical hourly rate for this position is $49.42 - $77.25. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
