Roadway Construction Inspectors shall also have knowledge and experience in the following:
a)Capable of assisting the Caltrans Resident Engineer in all aspectsof required field and office engineering work including, but not limited to thefollowing: inspection of non-structural construction operations; inspection oftraffic control system compliance; contract change order (CCO) preparation,review, and analysis; and Water Pollution Control Program (Storm WaterPollution Prevention Plan) enforcement.
b)b)Capable of reviewing, inspecting, and approving traffic controlsystems, including lane closures, in accordance with Caltrans’ standards andrequirements. Personnel reviewing, inspecting, and approving traffic controlsystem work shall have one (1) year demonstrated experience in such work.
c)c)Consultant Roadway Construction Inspectors shall also have: i.Knowledge and experience with equipment used in roadway constructioninspection, surveying, field testing of construction materials, andconstruction office engineering.
ii. Knowledge of computers,computer applications, and computer software programs such as Microsoft Office(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and others); Critical Path Method (CPM) software suchas Primavera Project Planner (P3, P6) and SureTrak, or any updated version, asa minimum; Scheduler Analyzer Pro; and Microsoft Project.
iii. Knowledge and experience withprinciples of effective communication and supervision.
iv. Knowledge and experience withmonitoring labor compliance.
v. Knowledge of subcontracting lawsand policies.
vi. Knowledge and experience withthe Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program and the General Permit.
vii. Knowledge of Caltrans StandardPlans, Standard Specifications, and Construction Manual . viii. Properbackground clearance, as necessary, when performing work on or near the railsystem.
ix. Experience in assisting inpreparation of Resident Engineers for the Dispute Review Board (DRB) positionpapers and meetings.
x. Experience in assisting ResidentEngineers to respond to preliminary claim findings and preparation for DisputeReview Board (DRB).
xi. Experience in preparation ofClaims files, documents and reports.
xii. Knowledge and experience in keeping complete, accurate, andconcise records of the work and quantities.
Consultant Roadway Construction Inspectors shall meet one of the following minimum qualifications (Either I or II below):
I) Graduation from a four-year curriculum in civil engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology (ABET). Possession of a valid certificate as an Engineer-in- Training issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists, or issued by another jurisdiction and accepted by the California Board may be substituted for the required education. A documented minimum two (2) years of demonstrated experience in roadway construction inspection of highways or major public works projects performing the duties described in this Contract.
II) A master's or doctorate degree in a civil engineering curriculum from a college or university that has a baccalaureate degree program in a civil engineering curriculum which is accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering Technology (ABET). A documented minimum two (2) years of demonstrated experience in roadway construction inspection of highways or major public works projects.
Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 50 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
