Jacobs is seeking a Building Inspector to join our collaborative team onsite in Peachtree Corners, GA. As a Building Inspector you’ll inspect buildings and building systems at various stages of construction, alteration and repair for compliance with applicable state and local codes as well as conformance with project conditions; visit premises and provide information and assistance to owners, contractors, developers and departments or divisions of the Jurisdiction to help with conformance to the code and report findings.
You’ll also: -
Perform field inspections of residential and commercial buildings during various stages ofconstruction and remodeling; ensures that structures are being constructed in accordance with approved plans and specifications and in compliance with applicable state and local laws, ordinances, and codes (including, but not limited to, building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and energy codes) to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the public
Conduct periodic field inspections before and during construction, remodeling, or repair; check the safety of construction and installation practices; inspect the quality of materials and methods of construction for footings and foundations, excavations, wood framing, concrete work, steel erection, lathing, plastering, tile work, masonry, electrical, plumbing, and other construction work; make final inspections to clear permits
Interpret codes and regulations; review, research, and communicate results in determining applicable codes/ordinances; explain required inspections, construction requirements and construction and repair methods and materials to owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and the public; advise owners on matters related to building permits; investigate and resolve building and related complaints
Assist with reviewing plans and specifications and maintain a variety of files and records related to areas of assignment including permit binders, records of inspections made and actions taken, and plans; input and retrieve information from computer databases; prepare reports, correspondence, and a variety of other written materials as requested
Monitor for construction work being done without a permit; Issue stop work orders as necessary; Track projects for compliance
Perform other duties as assigned, including cross training with building and land development staff

High School Diploma or GED and advanced experience in building construction
Certification by the International Code Council (ICC) in Residential and Commercial Inspections: if these certifications are not held, must become certified no later than one (1) year from date of hire (ICC certification is a condition of continued employment)
Basic plan review knowledge
Experience with the following: building codes and regulations applicable to commercial and residential inspection: code compliance of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems; materials, methods, and regulations; zoning regulations; site drainage and grading; sign code; and the fire code
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, builders, city staff, city and county officials and the general public
Ability to interact professionally and calmly with contractors, citizens, vendors, fellow employees, and others at all times
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Possess a valid state driver’s license with no major infractions
Ideally, You’ll Also Have:
ICC certified combination inspector
GSWCC Level 1B Certified Inspector
Advanced building trade work experience
Knowledge of and ability to apply building design and construction technology
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
