Jacobs Water - Principal Process Engineer in Peterborough, United Kingdom

Jacobs has secured multiple multi-year Contracts and Projects with leading Clients in the UK and across the Globe. Jacobs’ Water UK is looking for skilled people to deliver on these fantastic opportunities in the Water Industry and beyond.

We are looking for talented Principal Process Engineers to get involved in a range of interesting and challenging projects across all stages of the urban water cycle. Particular industry focus for ongoing and upcoming work, and topics we are passionate about, include a just, inclusive, Green Recovery, wider benefits throughout the water cycle though implementing Circular Economy and the UK Water Industry’s Net Zero Carbon commitment in response to the Climate Crisis.

As a member of the Europe Water Process team, you would be supported by and work as part of our diverse and dynamic team based in the UK and within our Global Solutions and Technology group. You would be supported by our regional European Water and Wastewater leads, Matthew Streeter and Amanda Lake and our global Water and Wastewater leads Russell Ford and Julian Sandino.

We have roles for both water and wastewater specialists or for those who enjoy both. Whilst this opportunity is to join our UK team, location flexible, a role with Jacobs comes with opportunities to work across a range of Clients from our offices and in secondments – in municipal water and in different sectors on projects across the world:

As a Principal Process Engineer, your responsibilities would include:

  • Acting as Process Engineer and Process Lead for the design of projects in a safe and professional manner

  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring the delivery of high quality design projects

  • Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with the other discipline engineers and project leads

  • Leading Process design work to agreed scope and within agreed time and budget

  • Mentoring and development of process graduates and junior staff

  • Data gathering through desk top study and site work, data analysis and interpretation for design development

  • Undertaking and leading process calculations and process modelling, development of PFDs and P&IDs

  • Liaising with our Clients and other design team members

  • Supporting our tendering and bidding teams and processes

  • Maintaining an up to date, comprehensive knowledge of developments in water and / or wastewater treatment technologies

You will join our team of over 400 Water Professionals, working on a range of high-profile projects and become a part of a World Leading Company with excellent career prospects. You will be delivering project tasks, designs and working with Clients on water and wastewater infrastructure and facilities at various stages in the project life cycle, working within our multi-disciplinary teams to deliver projects within agreed timeframes and budget.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

We are looking for enthusiastic problem solvers who enjoy working as part of a large multi-national consultancy. As we move to a more flexible working arrangement, we require our staff to be similarly adaptable, agile and flexible in their approach to working. You will hold an MEng in Chemical Engineering (or equivalent) and will be a chartered Engineer or close to becoming Chartered. You will have had relevant work experience in water and/or wastewater treatment and be an enthusiastic, proactive Engineer with:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Proven ability to work as part of a Process Discipline team and the desire to be part of our UK and wider team – contributing to our community of around 30 process engineers in the UK and our wider Solutions and Technology team.

  • Proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary design team, liaising directly with Clients and other project team members

  • Comprehensive understanding of Water and Wastewater theory and industry practices, standards and their application

  • Significant Experience in the design of water or waste water non-infrastructure from feasibility stage through to detailed design including development of piping and instrumentation diagrams, control philosophies and detailed process calculations

  • Experience in delivering process elements of design on small/medium or large water projects

  • Strong Mathematical and Analytical skills including use of MS Excel

Ideally, here’s what you’ll also have:

  • Previous work experience with an engineering company in water/wastewater industry

  • Experience working on site -whether in an operational or commissioning role

  • Process modelling experience using industry or academic software

  • Experience leading process design packages and process discipline teams on projects

  • Experience in line management and mentoring of junior engineers through day to day work and in their Chartership efforts.

  • Experience leading Energy Efficiency reduction schemes

  • Experience in measuring and quantifying Process Emissions
