Job Summary:

The Jacobs Phoenix office is seeking a senior level biologist who can support transportation, water, airport and energy sector work. The candidate must be able to demonstrate extensive experience in conducting biological analyses/fieldwork in support of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Endangered Species Act (ESA) and other applicable regulations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, impact assessments, regulatory permitting, project site investigation, habitat surveys, mitigation planning, restoration/mitigation site monitoring, and construction monitoring. In order to perform the tasks required in this position, the candidate will have a combination of coursework and applied experience in the following key areas:

  • Supervision of desert tortoise field activities

  • Experience preparing biological assessments and habitat conservation plans

  • Knowledgeable of Endangered Species Act section 7 and section 10 regulations

  • Experience preparing EISs, EAs, and BLM RMP Amendments

  • Experience conducting field surveys for various wildlife and plant species

  • Experience Section 404/401 Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act (ESA) and other applicable regulations.

  • Knowledge of Section 404 permitting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s Degree preferred

  • 15 years of experience in environmental analysis and studies is required

  • Excellent writing skills and experience in writing technical reports on the desert tortoise demonstrating knowledge of the scientific literature is required

  • Excellent verbal communication skills and computer literacy is required

  • Experience working on projects for state departments of transportation and the Federal Highway Administration is preferred

  • Experience conducting Airport Wildlife Hazard Assessments and certified as a FAA Qualified Airport Wildlife Biologist is preferred

  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record is required
