Jacobs Roadway Inspector - Pompano Beach, FL in Pompano Beach, Florida

As a Roadway Inspector, you’ll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services - uninterrupted. Based in Pompano Beach, FL, this position will involve the inspection of multiple roadway and structure maintenance contracts on the Turnpike in the South Florida area.

  • Accomplish inspections and monitoring of work activities performed within the state Right of Way.

  • Performs approved testing techniques using hand tools, gauges and/or instruments to ensure materials used conform to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements.

  • Use various engineering tools, equipment, instruments, and computers for performing technical engineering tasks, problem solving and record keeping.

  • Provide field information to Contract Manager and other Department staff as requested. Inspect and monitor contractor maintenance activities.

  • Assist the Contract Manger in preparing and review contract maintenance work orders. Document the maintenance activities performed under the contract.

  • Verify that work is performed according to contract specifications as well as all State and Federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, statues, and rules.

  • Conducts inspections of signs, guardrail, attenuators, drainage, and other roadway features as required by FDOT procedures.

  • Assist in reviewing the roadway and roadside for short-term and long-term maintenance needs.

  • Gathers data and performs preliminary reviews for maintenance contract needs.

  • Assist in the preparation of maintenance contract packages by providing field measurements, estimating quantities and other necessary data.

  • Assist in performing semi-final inspection of construction projects.

  • Respond to RISC or other major incidents to assist in highway clearance during normal work hours.

  • Provides survey of roadway items to be inventoried in GIS.

  • High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency

  • 12 months of infrastructure design, construction, incident management, or maintenance experience; or an associate degree or higher.

  • Knowledge of Temporary Traffic Control standards preferred.

  • Must obtain the Advanced Temporary Traffic Control (MOT) certification.

  • Must have valid Florida’s driver's license

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, and ability to perform duties outdoors.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products.

  • Position will work out of the Pompano Beach Operations Center.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
