Reporting to the Discipline Director for Mechanical Engineering, this role researches, programs, plans, designs, and administers building projects for clients, applying knowledge of fire protection engineering and life safety systems design, construction detailing, construction procedures, zoning and building codes, and building materials for clients according to their desires, needs, and financial resources. The position also requires a level of technical expertise to successfully implement projects from large complex projects to small renovation projects. Project scope may include military billeting, vehicle maintenance, aviation facilities, headquarters & administrative buildings, medical, research, and mission critical facilities.

  • May lead the design activities of others or lead discipline project design teams with guidance by the Discipline Director

  • Plans and programs layout of project(s); coordinates and integrates all other discipline elements into unified design for client review and approval

  • Performs work of complex scope

  • Conducts periodic on-site observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with detailed design documents

  • Prepares quantitative data (e.g. material take-offs) to support construction cost estimates

  • Monitors fire protection and life safety system project scope development and changes, tracking adjustments to the projected project construction cost

  • May prepare client project presentations studies, and reports

  • Represents organization with internal and external personnel on significant matters

  • Utilizes computer-assisted design software and equipment to prepare project designs and plans

  • May coordinate activities of workers both US and Host Nation Local Nationals engaged in preparing drawings and specification documents for the Conceptual Design Phase, Schematic Design Phase, and/or the Detailed Design Phase of a project

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Fire Protection Engineering, or Fire Protection Engineering Technology is desired

  • Registration as an Engineering Intern (EIT) desired

  • Certification as a Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) through NFPA is preferred

  • Ability to obtain registration as a Professional Engineer in the near future is preferred

  • Working experience as a Fire Protection Design Engineer in an Architectural or Engineering organization is desired with demonstrated design experience within Federal and/or DOD markets is desired

  • Working experience on USACE Far East District design projects is preferred

  • Experience in fire sprinkler, suppression, and fire alarm system layout utilizing hydraulic calculation programs, and knowledge of NFPA Codes, and International Building and Fire Codes is desired.

  • Demonstrated program experience in the usage of Revit, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office suite is desired

  • Knowledge of pre-design and pre-construction, building systems/components and technology, Federal Design Criteria (e.g., Uniform Facilities Criteria), contract administration, project delivery methods, team forming, and client relationship improving is desired

  • Thorough communications (both verbal and written) skills, and guidance abilities are desired

  • Ability to effectively coordinate with internal architectural and engineering team members is desired

  • Participation in professional organizations is preferred

  • Bilingual (Korean and English) is preferred

  • ​​​​​The effective candidate for this position will preferably be a current resident in South Korea. Relocation and housing allowances are not anticipated.
