As a vital member of our Roadway/Highways transportation team, our entry-level Roadway Engineers serve in key technical roles on roadway design projects performing design for various aspects of transportation projects on local, state, regional and national projects. We are looking for a self-motivated professional with strong technical skills with a desire to grow personally as well as professionally. At Jacobs Redding or Sacramento Office you will have the opportunity to work on world class transportation projects. Typical projects range from small recreational trails to multi-billion dollar programs, and everything in between. Jacobs has industry leading technical professionals providing limitless career growth opportunities. Initial duties for the entry level position will include, but are not limited to, geometric design of roadways including design of horizontal and vertical alignments, superelevation design, grading, drainage (hydrology and hydraulics), signing, striping, erosion control, maintenance of traffic during construction, quantity take-offs, and design review. You will work closely with our talented project teams through all phases of plan production as we carry projects from concept design to bid ready documents.

The Redding and Sacramento offices have a combined, approximately 250 professionals serving the transportation, water, and environmental markets. As a member of the Redding or Sacramento Team, you will be joining a talented group of professionals, ranging from other entry level engineers to career professionals with decades of experience. Located in Northern CA, you’ll have opportunities for city nightlife or outdoor exploration. You’ll be part of diverse multi-discipline teams in the delivery of transportation planning, and highway design projects.   • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering

  • Familiarity with roadway design principles

  • Familiarity with CAD software

  • Interest in taking on design challenges learning new skills

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills

  • Act as part of a team of professionals on multiple projects of varying size.

  • Identify and solve design and construction challenges

  • Use and follow design manuals and standards, including but not limited to the AAHSTO Roadway Design Manual (Greenbook), AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, and many other client or State specific design guides and manuals.

  • Review standard details and specifications and create or author as needed

  • Provide design support through construction

  • Interact with team members and assist in the coordination of work among engineers and detailers.

  • Develop preliminary and detailed construction cost estimates.

  • Assist with conceptual studies.

  • Research design options and documents findings for Project Engineers and/or Project Managers.

  • Work collaboratively with the CAD technician team.

  • Perform other duties as required.• Attend design review meetings and interact with clients as your level of experience progresses.

Experience with the following software is preferred, but not required:

  • MicroStation, Inroads, OpenRoads, or ConceptStation

  • AutoCAD and Civil3D

  • AutoTurn

  • FlowMaster, HY-8, Inroads Storm and Sanitary, or other Hydrology and Hydraulic related design software

  • Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as other commonly employed software

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from accredited university

  • E.I.T. or ability to obtain within 1-year of employment
