Jacobs Maintenance Technician - Renton Washington in Renton, Washington

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes work for safety hazards and routinely conducts pre-task planning to ensure work is performed safely

  • Reads, interprets, and works from blueprints, drawings, sketches, plans, specifications, mechanical illustrations, wiring diagrams and O&M manuals

  • Performs calibration and repair of flow meters, level indicators, pressure transducers and temperature gauges

  • Performs maintenance and calibration of water quality instruments such as chlorine residual analyzers, pH meters and turbidimeters

  • Calibrates, cleans and repairs chemical feed systems including positive displacement pumps, mixers, tanks and diffusers

  • Inspects, repairs and maintains mechanical equipment such as centrifugal pumps, compressors, fans, boilers, heating and cooling systems

  • Calibrates, repairs and maintains specialized water treatment equipment such as chlorinators, ozone generators and UV reactors

  • Replaces bearings, packing, seals, shafts, sleeves, seats, or other components found in treatment plant equipment

  • Performs a variety of plumbing and pipefitting tasks including the installation and repair of plumbing fixtures, fittings, valves and piping systems

  • Inspects, maintains and assists in the repairs of electrical conduits, wiring, circuitry, and control panels including lighting fixtures and electrical control equipment

  • Inspects, repairs and assists in the repairs of 3-phase electrical systems including motors, controllers and variable frequency drives

  • Uses electrical test equipment such as multimeters, amp clamps, meggers, power analyzers and loop calibrators

  • Uses specialized tools such as saws, drills, grinders, torches, welders, hoists and other equipment used in the repair of treatment plant equipment

  • Performs building and grounds maintenance including pressure washing, painting, mowing and brush removal

  • Maintains a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track and document work performed

  • Establishes and maintains calibration schedules and preventative maintenance programs for plant equipment

  • Establishes maintenance procedures and prepares reports

  • Analyzes equipment failures to determine cause and to prevent recurrences

  • Oversees the work of subcontractors

  • Specifies, locates and orders repair and replacement parts and equipment, and manages spare parts inventories

  • Maintains record keeping associated with all repairs and modifications

  • Communicates effectively with coworkers, contractors, clients and regulators

  • Basic computer skills including the ability to perform data entry and create computer reports

  • Performs other duties as required

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

Work will be performed indoors as well as outdoors in a variety of weather conditions; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.

Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment; have vision sufficient to read blueprints; have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold; use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; carry a 50 pound tool box up a flight of stairs; work in confined spaces and wear and use appropriate safety equipment including respirators.

  • Three (3) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of industrial processes, facilities and equipment. Related experience could include maintenance performed on public utilities such as drinking water/wastewater systems, electrical utilities, and facilities with specialized manufacturing equipment, processes, such as food processing, chemicals, oil and gas, etc.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to be covered by Jacob’s auto insurer

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
