  • Jacobs has an opportunity for a Network Designer with a TS/SCI Polygraph in Reston, VA. Duties include:

  • Familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) best practices and ITIL framework

  • Installs, configures and supports an organization’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), customer networks, intranet, internet and other data communications systems or segment of a network system.

  • Perform long term Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities to include tier 4 troubleshooting, problem resolution and vendor escalations as required

  • In depth understanding of networking systems and TCP/IP to include experience in IP Addressing and Subnetting; Network Address Translation; MTU; QoS

  • Strong knowledge of routing and switching sytems (Cisco or Juniper); understanding of routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP) and Gateway Redundancy Protocols (HSRP, VRRP, and GLRP)

  • Ability to perform configuration, testing and troubleshooting of IP network infrastructure (LAN and WAN devices)

  • Demonstrate the ability to work with customers to determine network requirements, write system requirement documents, and develop design solutions (physical and logical) that are in compliance with best engineering practices, standards and guideline

  • Explain design specifications to integration or test engineers

  • Develop plans or budgets for network equipment replacement.

  • Prepare design presentations and proposals for staff or customers


  • Active TS SCI with Polygraph Clearance

  • BS degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and fourteen (14) years of progressive, relevant experience, or an MS degree in a computer or system science discipline and twelve (12) years of progressive experience, or a Ph.D. degree in a computer or system discipline and seven (7) years of progressive experience

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive IT-related experience

  • Personnel should be able to deliver capabilities, mentor and train others.

  • Expertise, training and actual work experience with the specific computer language, systems and/or technology is significantly more important than the number of years of experience. This is especially true with emerging technologies.

  • Certifications: CCIE and/or JNCIE disired; 10 years of experience in IP network technology can replace the certification/s

  • Positions at this level are responsible as the overall Lead Engineer. Expected technical lead expert for design of enterprise wide and/or Intelligence Community (IC) wild networks and to lead Tier 4 network configuration/performance problem resolutions.

  • A working knowledge of STP, VTP and Virtual LAN’s and Trunking (VLAN’s); Network Security (ACL’s, IPSec Tunnels); SONET, ATM, MPLS, POS, Multicast and how to properly implement these technologies.

  • Experience with Type 1 cryptographic equipment from both an engineering and policy perspective.

  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.

  • Most work will be done at a desk or computer.

Work Environment:

  • General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Equipment & Machines:

  • General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment


  • Attendance is critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur

Must take and pass a drug test and background check as well as a motor vehicle records check. Must be a US citizen
