Jacobs is seeking a Network Engineer that has an active TS/SCI Polygraph for a position in Reston, VA. Duties include:

  • Evaluation of network service requests and communication with technical POCs for validation as part of the service request triage process

  • Evaluation of existing and future network infrastructure and services for verification as part of the service request triage process

  • Generation and updating documentation of relevant network infrastructure and services as necessary to delivery services and meet corporate governance process standards

  • Standard design (models and scripts) and logical implementation of packet transport networks and associated Cryptology solutions

  • Review of existing implementations and planning for aging infrastructure replacements as part of network refresh efforts

  • Respond to data calls from relevant staff leadership in fulfillment of transport network infrastructure and services

  • Analyze requirements as well as evacuate problems of workflow and organization to plan and develop appropriate corrective action

  • Assist with development and execution of test plans and supporting documentation of all network configuration upgrades, additions or revisions for customer, approval before implementation

  • Provide Type 1 cryptographic solutions to include strategic architectural direction and design, product road maps, requirements gathering, testing, implementation, documentation and supportability

  • Provide implementation support as necessary

  • Provide fourth tier support, assisting with troubleshooting and resolving network issues

  • Follow all customer network security processes and procedures, ensure compliance with all sponsor policies.

  • Conduct integration and testing of network hardware and software.

  • Produce network device scripts based on sponsor requirements.

  • Active TS/SCI with Poly security clearance

  • BS degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and fourteen (14) years of progressive, relevant experience, or an MS degree in a computer or system science discipline and twelve (12) years of progressive experience, or a Ph.D. degree in a computer or system discipline and seven (7) years of progressive experience

  • Experience with network design, network architecture, and creating relevant network documentation.

  • Advanced level hands-on experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining network services, equipment and devices, such as Switches, Routers, Servers, Cables, Rack and Firewalls.

  • Possess a thorough understanding of the OSI 7 layer network communications model and core technologies, concepts, protocols, and applications such as: LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, ICMP, HTTP, SFTP, SSH, SNMP, VPNs, Ethernet, Frame Relay, Latency, QoS.

  • Knowledge of Routing and Switching systems (Cisco & Juniper), common operating systems: Windows, Cisco IOS, UNIX and Linux.

  • Understanding of Routing Protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP) and Gateway Redundancy Protocols (HSRP, VRRP, and GLRP).

  • Knowledge of Information Assurance concepts, including both government and commercial encryption techniques, especially IPSec protocols such as IKE and ISAKMP.

  • Experience applying rigorous System Engineering practice to requirement flow-down and Verification & Validation (V&V)

  • Fifteen years of experience related to designing, installing and troubleshooting networks is highly desired

  • Relevant industry certifications or Network Specialist training is highly desirable, such as: MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CNE, JCIE, ITIL, ISO/IEC 20000

  • Experience with government networks and secure communications desirable preferred

  • Experience with Peer Review and/or briefing the Network Engineering Review Board preferred

  • Experience with network performance optimization is ideal

  • Knowledge of data center networking is desired

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure, constantly changing environment

  • Demonstrated experience taking initiative and working with little or no supervision

  • Desired Certifications: CCIE, CCNP, JNCIS/P

Essential Functions

Physical Requirements: Most work will be done at a desk or computer.

Work Environment: General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Equipment & Machines: General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.

Attendance: Attendance is critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.
