Jacobs Statewide Bridge Design Lead in Richmond, Virginia

The Jacobs team is seeking a creative, highly motivated Statewide Bridge Design Leader to support the delivery of local and regional projects. Our Virginia transportation practice encompasses world-class professionals located in multiple offices including Reston, Arlington, Richmond, Newport News, and Virginia Beach. We are seeking to hire a Statewide Bridge Design Leader with a proven track record of delivering projects for our top Virginia transportation clients such as VDOT VPRA, contractors (for Design-Build projects), and local county and city governments. As a key member of our team, you’ll have the chance to work on challenging projects as the Project/Task Manager for bridge, highway and roadway projects - planning, directing, and monitoring all aspects of projects with high degrees of technical complexity from the concept stage through detailed design.

You will be a Design Manager on large, traditional and Design-Build transportation projects throughout the Virginia and East Central geography and will have the opportunity to provide transportation engineering expertise, negotiate hours, develop and maintain schedules and budgets, direct and mentor project staff, and ensure quality reviews are completed. You will assist in managing external client relationships as well as lead and participate in business development initiatives as required. You will be responsible to Supervise and lead a growing group of bridge engineers across Virginia, with a focus to mentor and provide career development opportunities. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the following:

• Provides technical leadership and oversee all aspects of bridge and highway design projects including design-build transportation projects and assist with business development opportunities.

• Have overall responsibility for the successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of a project.

• Be responsible for communication, status reporting, decision making regarding technical approaches, risk management, and escalation of issues that cannot be resolved by the team.

• Lead the planning, staffing, scheduling, budget management, quality control, safety, and organization of internal technical and support staff, and subcontractors for the project.

• Focus on client service and satisfaction that leads to repeat business.

• Maintain a close relationship with clients, track upcoming project opportunities, and collaborate on project pursuits.

• Responsible for the quality of project work performed, client service, utilization of staff, marketing, contract management, billing collection, and project profitability for transportation projects.

• Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of transportation projects to ensure that goals and objectives of these projects are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters.

• Assists in the development and execution of local marketing and business development on traditional and alternative delivery opportunities, researches and tracks future project opportunities, initiates and reviews proposals and participates in interviews and presentations.

• Represents Jacobs at meetings, presentations, and public hearings relative to assigned projects.

• Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering

• Substantial years of experience in the bridge engineering design, design management and project management

• Registration as a P.E. in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or the ability to attain within 6 months of employment

• Previous experience working on alternative delivery (Design-Build and PPP) major transportation projects as a PM or Task Lead Experience in stakeholder relationship development and management

Ideally, You'll Also Have:

• Strong technical design background in traffic engineering, highway design, and highway drainage, as well as familiarity with AASHTO, FHWA and MUTCD standards

• Knowledge of and prior experience of using CADD/Design Software (MicroStation, etc.) is desirable

• High level existing contacts and strong relationships with VDOT and other State & Local government clients 

• Experience managing projects with other clients

• Experience managing staff and providing career development through mentoring and coaching

• Actively engaged in professional organizations
